So due to not having a lot of friends or people I want to invite we have about 22 guests.
We are thinking of getting married in a Church where my fiance's Dad and best friend are buried and then a hotel for a meal. Obviously 22 people isn't enough for an evening reception, really.

Is this weird? Has anyone experienced this before?

    hey

a girl i worked wit years ago was in a similar situation. she didnt have any family here and really didnt have much friends so what she did was did her ceremony and booked out a small room in her local pub, where she didnt pay for the room but she had the privacy, plus she decorated it and had a really good intimate gathering. why not try something like that. xxx

We are having no reception after our legal ceremony, only after the blessing...which is abroad. We are having around 15 guests at the uk part so instead of a reception we are booking a table at a nice restaurant and going for a meal and some drinks with our guests, who are all family or close friends!

I think it's nice to do a little something, even if it's just having a quick meal in a local bar or a round of celebratory drinks at your favourite pub!

Well, the hotel we are thinking of booking is small but has a bar so maybe if we have a later ceremony then the meal and just drink and chat into the evening? Although most of my family are older and don't drink ha ha!

I have a customer that was telling me recently that they only had a daytime do, and another one that had the service followed by champagne and cake in the church hall. My boss only had a meal with immediate family in a local restaurant and then went home in the early evening.

I think each couple should do what suits them, so I don't think it would be weird at all, and if my other half wasn't so adamant on having a party then that's what I'd do.

I went to a wedding where after the ceremony (there was 19 of us there) we went to a lovely pub that they'd had all decked out in a special room then after the meal we all stayed in the pub chatting and having a good time until the early hours. Definitely didn't miss the traditional evening reception! X

It's not weird. We got married in August in Gretna, and only invited close family - so in the end there was only 19 of us (my aunty was too ill to travel). We got married at 2.45pm, had a meal in the restaurant (the hotel closed it for everyone else so we could have a private reception) - then in the evening we all went straight into the hotel bar and spent the rest of the night there. The day was perfect and we definitely didn't miss out in any way by not having a big wedding or extra people for an evening reception on the same day.

Nah defo not weird. its your wedding! I agree with the others, nice meal somewhere or book out a small room and just enjoy a nice intimate evening. It'll be easier for you because you wont be running round like a headless chicken making sure your guests are ok! You can see back an relax and make ur own fun! xXx

    Hi
It's your day and you can have what ever you want, we have the same number of guests as you. We are getting married at the registrar and having a meal at a local pub. They are doing all the decoration which is free all I have to do is tell the manager my colour scheme, we dont have to pay a fee for the restaurant part of the pub and their closing it off for us. They will even provide the cake if we want. We could have an evening reception but it would be in the public bar, but they will provide a buffet and a DJ at an extra cost of course but we are reluctant to pay out for a buffet when people sometimes let you down and your left with a pile of food you dont know what to do with. My sister just went to the registrar with 2 witnesses and then went and had a meal with the two witnesses. Its all about what suits your situation and it does'nt matter what anyone else thinks as long as you and H2B are happy thats all that matters. xx

I'm wondering if it would be silly to wear the dress I have (in picture album) would it be too much? I do love it though.

    Hi Leanne.

We are doing something similar. We are getting married and having a meal in the same hotel. We have the room for the whole evening so we can put some of our own music etc on and have a bit of a party. At the moment I have a list of 25 including Andy and I.

I don't think your dress will be too much. I am having a proper wedding dress too (see picture album). I didnt think for a minute that it might be weird or silly. :)

Me & the WTB are having 20 people to our ceremony, then prob about 10 more back to a house party. We having the dresses we fell in love with etc. Its about who you spend it with afterall not following the "rules" and expectations of others. Hope you have a lovely day :)

It's definitely not silly to have the dress you want. Like I said before, we had a small wedding etc but I had a proper 'big' wedding dress and didn't feel out of place.

Have you seen S.e.x. and the city the first movie? Carrie and Big wed in the registry office and then go for dinner with the rest of the gang - the suit she wears I LOVE and would also wear (along those lines) because a big dress wouldn't fit the informal setting for me. BUT if you want to wear a big dress wear it! It's your wedding day - wear whatevee YOU want! NO wedding should be measured by it's size.

I'd go for the big dress. After all, you're only going to do this once (hopefully) in your life and you could wear a 'suit' anytime but not a wedding dress.
