we r gettong married in 9 months now. h2b asked his best mate to be best man and he said no, is too shy etc. i told him to ask again, tell him all he has to do is give us the rings, NO SPEECH! we said it it seals the deal, his girlfriend could b a bridesmaid but he still said no. h2b is upset although he wont admit it. he wont ask anyone else. i really dont no what to do now. he has other mates but none he is close to and he wont ask his dad as hes not suitable. my wedding is gonna be one big mess if we cant sort a best man. any ideas?

we asked h2b's bil to be an usher but he was too shy and didnt know anyone so he declined my brother jumped at the chance to boss ppl about and tell them which table they were sitting on etc... haha (hmmm wonder who i take after lol) xx

I was just about to say best woman too. It doesn't have to be a man or it could even be his dad. Either that or you have a ring bearer and then there isn't a real need to have a best man as such. You could then ask the best friend to be there on the morning to support him but he doesn't actually have to do anything at the wedding.

I'd say all that a best man is expected for is to provide a good speech, so if you were happy for him not to give a speech then perhaps your h2b will be okay without one, and a family member can hold the rings.
It's a shame that his friend is unwilling to be best man, but i'm sure he is only saying no because he feels very uncomfortable about it and not because he doesn't want to do it.
