OK, me and my wife to be got engaged last Saturday, something she and everyone's been hinting about for a while, we have set a date, buts that's about it.

When is the best time to start looking for a venue, we have seen a few places, but is 2 years too early too be looking?

    Engaged 14th April 2012

    Firstly Welcome to the site!

As soon as possible I would recommend, some venues are booked up a few years up in advance for popular dates. xx

Not too early at all! We got engaged on xmas day 2010 and the first thing we did was book the venue! They all get booked up pretty quickly, so get in now while you can!

    Oh and welcome!:-)

Thanks for the quick replies, we had seen one place online and I hinted we could go look at it, but she was worried it would be too soon, but now I'm going to drag her over there in the morning, didn't realise how tricky it would be to find the perfect venue, didn't realise how pricey either lol

Two years is definitely not too early at all. Better safe then sorry, your dream venue may be gone by the time you book.

    Hi
    Congratulations on your engagement!
2 years is not too soon to look. I'd advise seeing a good number of venues to get a feel for what you like and want from your venue. The really popular venues can be booked up 18-24 months in advance for the prime dates.
I got engaged in mid-January, we viewed a few places and also needed to book the Church, the Saturday in May 2013 that we ended up booking was basically the last available Saturday that month at the Church and one of the last two Saturdays left at the reception venue. I think we were really lucky to get our date!

Good luck and happy planning! x

Ok sounds like we need to pull our socks up, we have seen a few we made notes off, so hopefully we will be able to find one we like with dates available.

Just told the Fiancee (still not used to saying that) that we're going venue hunting tomorrow and she jumped out of her seat in shock, us men aren't that lazy and predictable are we???

Craig, I'm the same as you. I like to get things done as soon as. It never ceases to amaze me how some grooms just show zero interest. It's their wedding as well when all said and done lol!

2 years is the perfect timing and some even book places up 3 years in advance
I would start by sitting down and working out your budget then what is important to you and allocate your budget accordingly

As well as that, if it were only 12 months away, you would seriously struggle ( unless youre on millionares row) lol

We're hoping to go all-inclusive, ceremony, reception and evening all at one venue, already cottoned on to the fact most places will do package deals and will work out cheaper overall (we hope)

You girls should never underestimate the determination of a bloke when we're finally bothered... lol

2 years is not too early at all! I payed the deposit for my venue Monday just gone and we aren't getting married until 30th August 2014! We are both students and so need to save as much money as we can for the wedding. Now we have booked the venue and church we know how much it is going to cost for these and can make sure we have the money for them nearer the time. It also makes budgeting for everything else easier as you know how much money you should have left! And when looking at decoration and bits you know exactly where they will be going!

It's lovely to see you are so bothered about your wedding. I literally had to drag my h2b to go and see a venue as he was under the impression that 6 months would be plenty of time to book a wedding in as on telly they do it in 3 weeks! (dont tell the bride has a lot to answer for! lol) But for a Saturday in summer you have to get in there early! Good luck with all the planning! xxxx

Yep, my sister and BIL went for the all inclusive for their wedding last year, lovely venue, beautiful day and was a really good price! Defo works out cheaper.

H2B and I looked at the venue only hire option for reception (we're having church ceremony) with the need to book everything else separately (not a thing was included) and it worked out horrifically expensive ............and too time consuming and stressful.

Lol - Linzi-jo I'm watching DTTB right now! Just started thread on it.

It is lovely when men are interested.

I don't want to moan too much as H2B has been really good with the Church, venue, my e-ring and actually started calling DJ's and car companies. He even dragged me to a wedding fair which shocked me! Lol. Then other times he's been so not bothered and uninterested! x
