The first thing my H2b and I did, was work out what type of wedding we wanted, (we're having a modern yet traditional spring wedding), So work out if you want a religious or civil ceramony and type of reception, and the aspects of weddings you both want to include. And do some homework, find out how much your dream venue, flowers, cake will actually cost to give you a rough idea of how much it will cost.
Then work out what you can realistically afford to save monthly, and if you already have some savings and go from there. the worst thing (I think) you can do is set a budget and then work out you can't afford to save it., for example to save £10,000 in a year you need to savee like £800 per month.
When we worked out what our budget was we then set the date.
Also look into whether you can get any discount, ie for early bird booking or last minute.
    Hope this helps
    xx

    Hi Julie

    Congratulations on your engagement!

We're saving a fortune on our day by having the ceremony late afternoon and only having to feed the guests once in the evening (well, with a small afternoon tea style buffett inbetween... Wouldn't want any rumbling tummies!) Honestly, this has saved us thousands of pounds. Also, don't be afraid to ask for discount and for companies that don't give discount get some goodies includedwith your order!

    Hope this helps. X

My budget is 5.000. I'm getting my invites and flowers and tiaras on eBay. They are new and love them. Make a deal with Venue. I got my evening food as only having a buffet at 6pm and top up later on. Decorations including tables covers chair covers and sash for £800. Which i think is good. If you don't try and make deals you will never know. Hope this helps. All the best

Break your saving down into little bits, we listed things like flowers, dress, suits, decoration, rings etc and have an envelope for each with how much we need to save for it. It has made our saving much easier as we concentrate on one thing at a time and prioritise the saving eg, saved photographer money before cake money as we needed to book a photographer much sooner than sorting out cake. Each time you fill up an envelope you feel a little bit closer to being sorted and saving a smaller chunk is easier than a massive one. Good luck and have fun planning :) xx

I agree with the girls above.

I would set your budget first and see what you can do in that budget. We got a package wedding in September which had the ceremony, 3 course wedding breakfast with a glass of wine for 5 guests, incidentals like linen, cake stand etc, room set up/take down, evening do for 100 guests with pie and peas and a bridal suite for £2012.

I got my dress second hand (£50), we made a lot of things ourselves like invites, place names etc etc. We had silk flowers so they could be bought in advance (my bouquet, corsage cost £45) I made my bridesmaids bouquets at a cost of £10 total, got dresses off 3bay and @mazon.

It cna be as cheap/expensive and you want it to be. We attended a wedding in the August before our wedding and they had spent £12,000 and to be honest, I couldnt see where she had spent the extra £8,000
