Hey V,
Welcome to UK Bride!
First thing's first, sit down with your fiancé and work out what you want and what you can afford. The venue(s) should be the first thing(s) you book and, once you know what you can afford, start looking for those right away.
I'd suggest that booking photography should come next as you can save money by booking early and the good ones get booked up quickly.
It's really up to you what you feel is important, but the girls on here are great for advice.

hello!! First of all welcome and congrats on your engagement! Got to sort out the venue first I'd say - you need to know where its all going to happen :o) have you decided what kind of wedding you want? church wedding with reception elsewhere? ceremony and reception at the same venue, like a hotel or stately home? Do you want an evening reception too? etc. All sorts of things to think about venue-wise before you even need to think about everything else :o) xxx
There's a thread called getting to know you if you fancy getting to know us :D
Congrats on the engagement and Good luck with the plans xxxx

Start with your budget. What have you got? What can you save? What can your parents or others offer? (My folks, his folks and his granny are supplementing our budget, which is lovely!) However, a word of caution, do not borrow money for your big day. It's not worth it. Work within your means.
There is budget planner on this site that lets you fill in anything you like and lets you do an estimate and an actual amount. You can also do a search and find your own online. There are some comprehensive ones around that come up with everything you can think of and break your budget down into suggested mini-budgets. You may find this a helpful start.
There are people who say the average amount spent on a wedding is £18K, which for many of us seems impossibly daunting and ridiculous for one day. But it is easy to spend a lot more than you first intend. When you first start thinking, you're probably concerned about the venue, the food, the alcohol, the dress. But as you get closer, your mind starts to race about 2 foot tall vases, gold table number holders, seat covers with sash bows, matching table cloths, name places in the shapes of a horse and carriage, releasing a pair of doves, having your own owl ringbearer, candle lanterns that look like a fairy castle, jesters, tightrope walkers, fire dancers, putting trees in the abbey, arriving by helicopter, getting your make up and hair done professionally, having a month-long honeymoon in the Fiji, whatever. If you budget is elastic, great. Go for it. But otherwise, stick to your budget. Choose wisely what special extras you can afford.
You are not just a bride to be. You are now project manager for a major event! You will need to be organised and get your guest list onto spreadsheets so you know who has been invited, who has replied, who has given you what gift and whether you've sent out a thank you note!!!
But do enjoy it and take advantage of the forum - people will give you their stories and you can decide if you want to do the same or different.
Congratulations and enjoy this time! It will all come together, I promise.

Hello and welcome, this is a great site, loving being on here. When my h2b finally set the date i went out and bought loads of wedding magazines and have now a scrap book with every idea that i love as when i get stuck outcomes the book and brings everything that i fancy flooding back. The first thing we did was look for a venue as they seem to book up really quick and 3 couples were after our venue but i arrived 5mins before them all and booked there and then and that was 19months before the big day !
My biggest dream is to marry my Best Friend and I can't wait
to be Mrs Herbert Whoop Whoop !!!!
