We went to a wedding fair on Sunday and had a conversation with a small travel agent that was there about our honeymoon. My other half is a self employed Electrician and is rather reluctant to take holiday, so we decided a mini-moon was the way to go, just to have a few days away after the wedding.

We've been quoted £2600 for 4 nights at a 5* hotel in New York, including flights. Is this reasonable?

Hi Charlotte. It may be just me but that does sound rather expensive! Who is that flying with? Personally I think that being in New York you'll be out and about a lot so maybe no need to spend a fortune on hotel? It's all about location! I'm sure you'd be able to get a great last minute deal if you waited til nearer the time? I know u said you're h2b can't take much time off but in comparison we're paying £2400 total for 5 nights in Vegas then 10 nights ai in Mexico.
Virgin have just emailed me with a sale offer and new York is on it - might be worth taking a look? Xxx

Hiya! We went to NY in November 2012 and as Mrs Farrelly2B has said, I'd personally go for a 3* or 4 at the most as we were only in our room to sleep as there's so much to do! You should be able to get flight and hotel for about £700+ each so I'd probably shop around a bit! Xxx

Thank you! We did think it was rather expensive, so I did a bit of a search on the internet and there were some much cheaper ones. We're going to wait until a bit nearer the time and see what deals there are.

The daft thing is that the quote came from a little independent travel agent!

I think that's a really good price actually! I work for a travel agents but before I did we went to NYC where we got engaged in 2012 and we paid £2400 for us both then for 4nights/5days flying with v1rg1n....and prices go up roughly 10% year on year so I think that's pretty reasonable... Flights to anywhere in America are not cheap as it's not Europe for an hour, it's 7hrs to New York,so fuel cost alone is a lot...
Before you go for a cheaper company check for ATOL status as cheaper low budget companies don't have it therefore if they go bust you lose everything, especially bad if you're already away when this happens as if you're ATOL protected the hotel will legally keep you in their hotel til they can arrange to get you home, a non ATOL protected one will just throw u out with nowhere to go x

Also...I wouldn't personally wanna go with anyone but v1rg1n long haul now and I don't work for them, but their service when it comes to meals, films and tv choice, quickness, friendly staff etc is excellent and no queuing at check in which is a plus x

Hiya!!! You can get much better deals than the one you were quoted for!!... i havent long come back from new york and the hotel i stayed in was right on times square. My fiance works for v1rg1n atlantic and if you can afford it, deff try going premium economy if you want a little bit more ''posher'' experiance. add me as a friend or drop me a message and ill pass on the hotel details. I am not saying it is a 5 star one, but all your doing is sleeping there and this hotel has the most comfiest beds EVER!!.. lol

I reckon you could get it cheaper than that and I'd say to go 4*in new York, but I guess it is your honeymoon so might want to treat yourselves xx

hey Camilla i agree with going premium ..just that bit of extra leg room makes such a difference on a long haul flight ( says she who has just splashed out on business seats to Jamaica )

We are flying to New York tomorrow with V1rgin and going premium we went to Florida in Sept and flew on the Thomson's Dreamliner premium which was amazing We are out there for a week and staying in a 4* hotel its cost us just over £3000 so it wasn't cheap but we wanted to try Virgin this time

I'd agree booking separately, I've done that the last 2 times I've been to NYC.

It may be worth chancing booking regular economy and mentioning at check in that you're on honeymoon and get a free upgrade, it's not guaranteed but worth a shot. Hubby and I got upgraded on honeymoon to Hawaii.
