Last week i went to bring int he eggs and found the hen house infested with red mite... something they usually get but we have controlled it well until last week.
I took the house apart and scrubbed it with disinfectant and left it to dry.
We put it back together and left it for an hour - then went to put in some bedding - and found it crawling again
We could not control this outbreak so had no option but to burn our chook house - rendering them homeless.
Mark built them a temporary home, but it wasnt ideal
So today he has built them a more permanent house......

And we can still get to the eggs by lifting up the lid!
it will be easy to clean than the wooden one and the red mites cant hide in it cos its plastic - genius!

Its a blerdy pain in the **** innit DP
We had it under control - or so we thought, but cos the house was wooden and its been particularly rife this year they would not leave! I dismantled it and disinfected it to wihin an inch of its life
So had to burn the lot.
However he choocks love their new house.... although its got the council stamp on it lol....and its rather roomy and cosy!
be much easier to control the red mite cos its plastic... marks gonna put minarets on it tomorrow so we got halal chicken lol

Yeah, ours were really itchy and stuff... bloody mites are still not good, or so Jason says... hoping we don't have to burn the lot! May yet come to that though.

Gonna be so much easier to keep clean.
We spen ages dusting down the chooks with lice and red mite powder - checked them today and looks like they ok, but will have to keep on top of it.
As i said earlier, this year has been REALLY bad for it and i think everyone is struggling to keep on top of them
