I am due to meet with a few venues, although I have my heart set on one particluar place, to discuss menus and costs etc. The one venue I really want is a stately home and their sample menus are very posh with some meals including things i've never even heard of! The costs are pretty high too. What I wanted to ask is if you can ask a venue to make a menu that you want? Is this cheeky?

Certainly not hun defo worth to ask the Q. We have agreed a few wee changes on ours too and secured 2010 prices also :-) xx

I'm sure a bit of haggling is fine, if you dont ask..... ;)

Excellent, thanks so much for your replies :) xx

If you dont ask, you dont get. Whats the worse they can say? no.
We negotiated with ours on the minimum numbers cap, and surprise surprise they moved. You get more le-way if you'd consider an 'out of season' date though and not a Saturday. Most will move on things though, just be really casual (dont appear that you MUST have it!) and have the 'back up' venue ready that just happens to be cheaper (hehe!) to quote to your preferred choice!

my venue doesnt have set menu's so we had to pick our own. but another place we looked at said they have their own menu but if there is something else you want they will ask the chef if they can make it
CommentAuthorjellytot
no harm in asking x

Thanks Bex, I'll definitely go with that attitude. My H2B is a right haggler so hopefully he can get what we want.
I will haggle everywhere then. Thanks ladies, you've been a great help. xx

I asked and they let me! Def worth an ask hunx

Yup haggling is the way forward :) do a double act with your H2B. One of you looking interested and the other saying no it's just too much money. It always works a treat and is great fun too. Hope the prices come tumbling down xx

Every venue we have tried to haggle with won't move! We obviously don't have good haggling skills! We even had the 'cheaper back up' lol! They all say they don't negotiate on prices, especially as it's in the time of may - october!! x

at the end of the day they want your money - so you can ask and they will either say yes or no - but id haggle to try and get the price down x

We negotiated to reduce our minimum numbers and date for cost reasons. Happy with what we have as we can always have more people although not less.
The days are flying by, can't wait :)

If you dont ask you will never know

Hehe, yeah, good cop, bad cop works really well! Just let H2B be the haggler and bad cop so you can be the nice one as no doubt you will be the one talking to them most :-) NHR115 let us know how it goes :-)
