Dont let it get you down hun, you are not being a grumpy moo, i agree with you!! I dont think you will need to pay for all 160, we are only providing buffet for 75% of our eve guests as our venue said so much gets waisted especially after having the wedding breakfast!!! xx
CommentAuthorMel D
We catered for 60% of the people for the evening buffet and that was plenty xx

My MIL is saying the same to us, we're having the wedding breakfast late afternoon and wont be finished with that until about 6pm so am only catering for 2/3 of the evening reception, since I don't expect those who have had the meal to want to eat a great deal just 2 hours later!
FYI, I went to a friend's wedding a few weeks ago and they catered the same as me - 2/3 of those that would be there in the evening - and they were literally begging people to eat something because there was so much waste.
Stick to your guns!
Now, finally, Mrs Riley

Our venue said cater for about half the total number of guests for the evening as the day guests will probably be full and be drinking instead by then lol ! We are having a choccy fountain though so that might be why they said half but i'm not sure.
You do whatever you feel right doing Hun, like pennieb said stick to your guns.

I had 160 in the evening and only paid for 80!! we had tonnes of food left over, we was still eating the food 5 days after the wedding! Dont listen to her, she dont know what she is talking about.
I am now Mrs Stacey Stiles and loving it!
CommentAuthorzowie
Loola Hoop this is probably not the right thing to do but I would lie to the MIL2B and say you are catering for all guests and cater for the 120. I think people will be too full as well so I'm only catering for 80% of my evening guests and doubt she would even realise there isn't the exact amount for 160 people. In her case ignorance will be bliss for you because she won't be nagging on x

Our cake was suposed to be cut up and brought out with the evening buffet, but they didn't do it. My mum took the fruit tier home and has been giving slices out to people, and we took the sponge tiers into work as there was no way we'd eat three cakes!

We are eating our wedding breakfast about 4.30 and our evening hog roast is due out at 8, we have also said we are not catering for all but have a min number of 130 for the hog roast so are having to pay for that. (That all made sense in my head) I am sure u know what I mean :-) xx
CommentAuthorloola_hoop
lol that totally made sense princess! lol
and Zowie - as simple as that idea is i hadn't even thought of it - but, it is what i am now going to do!!! lol lol the only one going to know how many are being catered for are the venue, me and my bank account!! lol
i am feeling sooo much more relaxed about this now :) thankyou sooo much girlies :) xXx

As im having bacon rolls for my reception im catering for everyone BUT the venue said if we were to have our other option of a hog roast then just to cater for 75% of my guests.
Ask your venue hunni see what they say

hahah yes defo 'fib' to the MIL2B xxx we were told we only needed to cater for 75% of overall guests in the eve by our venue. xx
CommentAuthorjanetx71
loola aww hun big hugs and dont let her get you down im really lucky i have an excelent caterer and i have about 505 for meal and between 85 and 90 for evening she told me that they only cater for two thirds of the guests anyway and with your cake i would think its more than enough food most of the people who went during the day will not really be eating anyway
CommentAuthorLiza247
I agree with the others if your having a five course meal most of your day guests won't be eating much at the night do anyhow. I would just cater for the amount you have already decided to do. I'm having 90 to my wedding breakfast and 150 for the evening reception and only catering for 100 people. I was a bridesmaid last Saturday for my cousin and they had a evening buffet for 150 people and it was ridiculus how much food was left, they had 70 day guests.
CommentAuthorLiz3yy
If you're having 160 in the evening you don't need to cater for all them. I know from working in events that you never when it comes to buffets cater for all the numbers expected, you should only cater for 3 quarters of them or even two thirds, so if you have 160 expected guests do food for 120 at most.
Can't wait until the day I become Mrs. Johnson :)
CommentAuthorKatie
Well our venue told us we had to cater for all guests coming in the evening I have told her we have the 60 coming that we have paid for but in reality we have more like 80 coming lol We are having a sweet buffet as well though and our cake is to be used as desert ;-)

Hi no i think you are doing the right thing most of buffes go to waste anyway because not everyone eats the day time guests will be full after there meal and the night guest will have had the diner before they come I am have 50 day guests and another 120 at night and i am only having the buffe for 150 x
CommentAuthorcj
last wedding we went to the bride & groom spent about 2000 on food for the night and it got wasted as there was a meal b4, wots the point in paying for something thats gnna be wasted? that amount will be plenty, if your mil2b wants to slip off for pizza let her lol x

We are having a wedding breakfast for 50, then a hog roast in the evening. We are having around 150 come to the night do, but only catering for 100. There are quite a few children coming tothe day, so we aren't catering for them at all in the evening. We are also having a 'cheese cake' and a smallish wedding cake. I dont mind if they dont eat all the cheese tho!!! lol
CommentAuthortimpson123
What about if you venue only provides a certain number of plate? Any tips on how to get round that one?
CommentAuthorsam73
I think there should be enough, we haven't got a choice we have to pay for 70% of guests according to the hotel
CommentAuthor*Layls*
Most people will be drinking rather than eating! Don't worry about it, my venue told me I HAVE to pay for 95% of the guest in the evening buffet (iam not) whats she going to do stand there counting people with a clipboard? lol don't stress xx
