We are this close to booking this venue, but before we can, we need to finalise a few details and costs with the venue. We met with the wedding coordinator last week and discussed what we wanted to do. She then sent us over three quotes - one with what we wanted to do with a few extras to make up the minimum spend, one that was their all inclusive package and the last was their food/drink package. Anyway, I need to go back to her with a few changes to the first quote which is our fave. However, they also have an option to build your own buffet. At the moment, we've gone with their set hot/cold buffet, but we can choose up to 14 items ourselves and she'll quote as a price per head. I like this idea as it might up the price more than their set menu and then we can lower the cost of the evening buffet etc.
Anyway, trying to narrow down 80 options down to 14 is a bit of a nightmare - I've looked at it, h2b has, even my MOH had a look last night and this is what we've come up with. So your opinions please! Please bear in mind that this is for 'wedding breakfast'. We're planning on having a late afternoon wedding (around 4), so the meal won't be happening till about half 5ish, possibly 6.
Buffet
Roast beef, turkey & ham platter Dressed side of salmon Chicken satay served with peanut dipping sauce Queen scallops, king prawns in filo and lemon sole strips Baked tomato & mozzarella tartlet (v) Asparagus & cheddar quiche (v) Vegetable samosa (v) Fragrant rice (v) Buttered new potatoes with mint (v) Penne pasta with rich tomato sauce (v) Classic cesar salad with fresh parmesan cheese (v) Herbed cous cous (v) Crusty French stick with butter portions
What do you think? Is it a good balance? I know it's a bit hard to see what else there was regarding the options, but if you can think of anything that's missing, I can have a look and see if there's something similar.
Thank you!! x

The only thing i would say is you only have 2 meat and also have 2 fish the percentage of people that will eat the fish is likely to be a lot less than those are eating the meat platters. Other than that it looks good. I personally would add another meat

Anytime i worked in catering to many years you learn a bit about what works well on a buffet.

I think it look pretty balanced, like you say it's hard to tell when we can't see the other choices, but if you think you've catered for everyone's taste and more importantly you and H2B like all the food then it's fine!
Right swapped out the scallops etc for Cajun chicken. It was either that or more beef or ham...!! I'm also debating adding in sandwiches as only got 13 items so far, so room for one more.
If you want to look at the options, I'll post the link to the catering brochure on my wall.

Charolottelee - really? I am surprised at the meat/fish statement. I would have thought that as some vegetarians do eat fish that the fish items would prove more popular, but there you go! Joey86 - all I would say is to be aware of any food allergies (I would pick up on this as I'm a wheat free person and my H2B is wheat and dairy free), so just make sure that you've covered those bases. Peronally, I would be happy with a plate of the meat, fish and potatoes, but I know that H2B wouldn't be able to have the potatoes as they're buttered. Maybe you could ask if they are able to do some with soya spread (that would cover for vegans too, I guess). Anyway, I think you've made some great selections there and all this talk of food is making me think it must be nearly lunchtime! Hx

Heather when i was first working in catering i was always quite shocked at the fish platters being left and always the platters that had food left. I personally dont touch fish. Cant stand the smell or taste etc but a lot of people like it.
Good point about wheat and dairy frees though hadnt thought about that.

Yeah, I'm surprised to be honest - fish is the first thing I usually go for - can't get enough of the stuff. THey say it's brain food, so my body must think that I need more of it to compensate for the lack of brain I sometimes have LOL!!!

Thanks HeatherG - one of my bridesmaids can't eat wheat, gluten and has a lactose intolerance so it's on my list of questions to ask the venue regarding what they can do. I'm going to email her later with the buffet options just to make sure she can eat some of it! There was another potato option that I might add in... hmm.
God, choosing food is such a nightmare! And yes, I'm bloomin' starving now too! x

LOL if no-one else eats that salmon, I'll finish it off myself haha! H2B is really picky with fish too, but my side of the family love it (we're Swedish, what can I say? - raised on herring and shell fish from a young age lol) x

Might be an idea to see if they can do the pasta in a 'gluten free option'. You could tell them that tesco have a really good wheat alternative penne. To be honest, I've served it to friends for dinner and they've not known the difference! The combination of gluten/lactose intollerance can be quite tricky (oh and my H2B hates nuts too, which makes it even more difficult). But your BM will be used to dealing with her diet, and can probably give you some tips for the venue I suspect. Hx
