Ok this may sound really silly but im actually slightly conufused as to what we do with paying for our wedding?

Do we save up the amount we want to spend first? then set a date and start buying things?

Or Do we set a limit we want and a date we'll be able to save it all by then set the date and slowly start buying things?

And also if my parents have said theyd contribute do i ask them politely now how much will put forward so we can sort a proper budget?

We havent offically set a proper date yet due to the fact that ive been out of work and only just started working again and were in the process of trying to move out.

Sounds really stupid me asking but confussing me as i keep hearing different things from different people and i dont wana set a date then run out of dosh :( lol

    Any help would be good :D x x x

you can do it either way hun, we set a budget we could afford and then set a date and are paying as we go along.
or you can save it up first then spend. whatever is easier for you. i would ask politely how much your family are contributing so you know and are not left short x

Which ever way suits you! we thought about a realistic time frame in which we could save a good amount then set our date, but we didnt actually give ourselves a budget, just thought we would buy things as we go along and then at the end, maybe borrow a little if we really needed to although we are really going to try our best not to. We are doing well so far, just try and get things at a good a price as you can :) xxx

As everyone has said, you can do it either way. If you decide to book things while you're still saving, then be realistic about how much you can save each month, eg it's fine saying 'we could save £300 a month if we never go out', but that's unrealistic, esp in the long term.

I would also sit down with your parents and gently ask how much they can afford to contribute at the moment; it was awkward, but I had to do this with my parents as otherwise we couldn't really look at anything because we didn't know what budget we were working to. If your parents are contributing, I also would lay down some 'ground rules' first, as some parents see contributing as an excuse to take over and make decisions abut everything from the type of ceremony, to the venue, to the guest list.
