Hi Everyone! I'm brand new to this and only got recently engaged. However I have started planning already, I just wanted some advice on whether it's better to hire a marquee or hire a reception venue. Thanks xx

Congrats on your engagement and welcome to the site!

I guess in answer to your question, it depends what you want, and what your budget is and also where you are having your wedding - very unlikely you'd have a marquee in central London, if you see what I mean :)

If u plan on getting wedding insurance it will be overall cheaper for a reception venue because u have to get extra cover for a marquee so totally depends on your budget and what theme/feel u want for ur wedding and when it is too x

Oh yes, well done KelBel - completely agree about what time of year it is. I went to a marquee wedding in October a couple of years ago, and it was so cold! I had to wear my coat the whole time! I guess you can get heaters, but just worth considering...

Definitely depends on your budget and priorities. If you have a set look in your head then you have to decide what fits that better, the marquee or the venue. And then decide if you can afford everything you want and what you cant compromise on. Since the venue is (one of) the most expensive items you want to decide what your priorities are so you know if you can compromise on this or not, and where you are going to save money etc. Then you'll be able to research venues and prices and make the best decision to give you your perfect day. But if you get started ahead of time and do lots of research and planning you might not even need to compromise! Or at least not much x

Marquee weddings can be lovely, particularly if the weathers right...that said they can be a lot more expensive to hire...xx

For us a nice marquee to fit 130 guests was over £2500, that's without thinking of a venue for it, potential toilet hire, heating etc. It was working out expensive when we added it all up and we hit walls with where to erect it. Cricket season/football season saw many issues.
We decided we couldn't afford that route, but luckily found a venue that has its own :) really looking forward to decorating it as its a lovely blank canvas.
We're marrying in May, hopefully the weather wont be too bad then either

I debated with this idea when I first got engaged but when I looked into the price of a marquee it became obvious it was waaaay out of my budget. It all depends on what you want on your day and how much you've got to spend on it xx

Oh. and welcome to the site, congrats on your engagement xxx

it totally depends on your budget. I actually found it was CHEAPER to buy a massive "party tent" / marquee on the bay of e than hire one! but we couldnt find anywhere to put one lol!
I would totally LOVE a marquee, i am hopefull that we can drape tulle in our venue to give the indoor marquee feel
