2 months ago me and my H2B rented out our spare room to a friend and his girlfriend, on the verbal agreement that it would be for 6 months at a cheap rent so it would help them out so they can save to get there own place and help us out with a bit of extra cash. Over christmas they bailed on the holiday we booked for end of this month, which we paid out for, and since then have been avoiding us like the plague. Cos we had paid out for the holiday it ment that we relied on there rent this week for our spending money which they knew. Yesterday they come down stairs and say can't afford to give you the rent because we are moving out, so i ask them when they are moving out and how long has this been going on, to which they replied we found the perfect flat yesterday and moving in thursday. when they came back last night they snuck in and pretty much moved out.

I am so annoyed with this situation as they have not once said sorry, and there is also no way through an estate agent they could move in with in 24 hours of finding the place. All i can keep thinking is that they have known about this for about a month now, which would of been fine if they had been straight with us from the start

Sit them down and tell them how you feel. You where being nice and letting them stay with you. They knew you knew they where moving out after a while so why they kept it a secret is stupid.

That is really low but at least you know they're not really friends! Sadly because your agreement was only verbal there's nothing you can really do. BUT if the holiday tickets were booked in their names then I believe you have a case for small claims court for you to get your money back, though I'd hope they see the error of their ways and reimburse you.
Horrid people :( I hope it gets sorted

    It's right what they say
"The course of true love never runs smoothly"
But if it had been easy then we wouldn't love each other as
much as we do right now - 1 week to go :D

If it is the case that it has all happened over a 24 hour period why not tell us when they got in Saturday, and wouldn't it be common courtesy to apologise for giving us no notice

That is why you never rent to friends. I got bitten too for doing it. It ruins friendships. Sorry to hear they have done that to you but I would very much doubt you will get the money back so you just have to move on from it as getting bitter about it just ruins things for you. It won't bother them in the slightest. Big hugs x x
