So we have been trying to book our honeymoon over the last few days and i managed to dig out my passport, only to realise that it expires 3 weeks before the wedding.
I would really like to get my new passport in my married name and this is fine, it can be done up to 3 months before the wedding. the problem is for our honeymoon i will need to get a visa and my passport wont be valid until the date of the wedding. has anyone else had this issue?
also to book the honeymoon i need the passport number and we need to book before 3 months prior to wedding otherwise we wont be able to get the deal and theirfore wont be able to climb kilimanjaro!!!

anyone had the same issues or has any advice?
    xxx

Are u getting married in a church? I know the vicar can sign a form saying that u are getting married and the passport office will give you your passport for it, I would call the passport office to find out if I was you xx

i don't think the issue is actually getting the passport in her name, but that it won't be valid until the date of the wedding, but she needs to apply for a visa just now, which, maybe needs to be in her maiden name??? is that right??

sorry i don't know the answer, but it may just be easier to get the passport in your maiden name and change it after the honeymoon.

maybe the passport office or the travel company will know

It's ok, you can apply for a new passport early and they will post date it, adding on the time you have from your original one. If you get someone to verify you're getting married then they can issue the passport in your married name, but until you're married you can't travel under that name - so no hen do's abroad! And the visa can be issued in your married name if it matches your passport - that's as far as I understand it anyway :-)

I would check with whoever issues the visas and also with the passport office. It will basically depend on how early you need to get the visa, as if it's more than 3 months before, I think you'll have to renew your passport in your maiden name, then change it later.

Mine comes up for renewal less than a year before our wedding, so unfortunately I'm going to have to renew it in my maiden name, and then get a new passport in my married name after we're married. It's galling spending out twice in a year, but I don't have much choice :-(

thunking about it the only options i can see for you is

1, renew your passport in maidan name ... apply for visa then change name at a later date

I've had exactly the same problem as I need to apply for a visa prior to the trip which needs to match my passport which wouldnt be active if I got a pre-issued passport.

One other problem is if you want to get it in your maiden name and then change your name after, they only transfer 9 months of your passport onto the new one (new name). Loosing out on over 9 years of your passport.

Although I'd really like to have my passport name changed, given the cost and hassle unfortunately I'm applying for a passport in my maiden name and just going to continue to use it in my maiden name for the following years. Just need to make sure that any holiday's you book you make sure you book in your maiden name. Im sure i'll find the money in other months if it really causes any issues.

    Hope this helps.

Thanks ladies, I think I'm going to phone the Tanzanian embassy to ask them. Hopefully they will grant a visa on a post dated passport. I really don't want to have to get a passport in my maiden name and then pay out again to change it later. Will let you all know how I get on xxx

Lala could have done with you there, I had all but 3 turn up!!! I did have to kick Ian out for being an idiot!!! Will give you more details on tues when I have you all day!!! :o) xxxx
