Something like Penelope Pitstop with a slogan of Let the beauty come to you!

Alliteration is a key factor that helps sell and advertise! Good luck chick! xxx

Might not be allowed Penelope Pitstop (copyright and all that). Whatever name you decide on (I can't think of any to suggest atm) I would say register a domain name (eg ****************) even if you're not ready for a website just yet. I made sure I had my domain name long before I was open for business. Also pick a business name that is likely to stick in peoples head, something short and catchy :)

I like glamour puss too. Why don't you go through the yellow pages to give you an idea of what others are already called as you will need to see if it has already been used before. Also make sure you learn how to do your accounts and tax etc. Don't want Mr tax man to chase after you!

I use acemoney for my accounting, does the job atm for what I need and its cheap (£25 for the licence from what I remember) There are loads out there, check for ones with a free trial, gives you 30 days to use the program and see if you get on with it

Why don't you do a quick accounting course or business course? You can even get books from the library on how to set up your own business etc. I know it sounds scary but its better to face it now than end up in court with a big fine etc.

Most clients will not want receipts but some may do. You can buy receipt books though and hand write them. If you wanted to be really professional you could even have a stamp made with your company business name etc and vat/tax number.

You never know. I don't know if they still do them with all the cuts, but there used to be centres where you could get advice for starting up your own business. Of course unhelpfully I can't remember what they were called...... I don't know, but it also might be worth checking whether they include advice on starting out on your actual beauty courses - they may advise on things like insurances you might need, or stuff like that....

well it is kind of wedding related as this whole new buisness venture will save my marrage and already has started too as without this there would have been no wedding, plus i want to get in to bridal makeup and bridal packages maybe even a gypsy wedding!!! so thats why i posted it !! plus i dont have many firends local and its good to get the views of others that may have their own buisnesses etc as i wouldnt have the first clue where to look ....

so theres my excuse for a non wedding post lol

ooooo am gonna have to have a look round and see if their are any grants for me as that would be nice... and never thought of insurance... you see clueless!! i think i need to go seek some advice!!

    thanks

yeah you will definately need insurance, as to what kind I'm not sure. And yes there is so much to setting up your own business as I found out late last year when I started mine, I'm still on a learning curve lol.

Registering for VAT is optional if you're making under £68000 a year (I think its that amount)

There are also free websites (normally something like***************) but if you have paid for a domain name (mine cost less than a tenner for co.uk one for 2 years) you can have your website point at your domain name so your clients will see *******************) and it doesnt cost anything for this redirection.

If you're in a rented property you will need permission to run a business from home but seeing as you'll be going to other peoples houses and theres no huge delivery lorrys turning up on your doorstep its usually not a problem.
