hiya girls any advice would be so much appriciated
im planning on having an all sponge cake as most of guests and me n hubby 2 be hate fruit. one of the cakes we have seen is like £300. my mum had an idea that as i just want sponge why didnt i just get 3 plain cakes from M&S in 3 different sizes which works out about £50. i was thinking just to put ribbon around each of the tiers so it doesnt look too plain.
as for the top tier shud i get a cake topper to complete it or shud i see if i can get some sort of ediable decortion like rose bud for top?
im trying to keep down costs as much as i can. xx

dont buy it too far in advance as sponge can go dry very quickly. you can get personalised cake toppers of your initials that look really good that dont cost too much. xx

think that is a really good idea, and dont forget u can always decorate the top with a small fresh or silk flower that matches ur theme, im sure whoever is making ur flowers will give u a small decoration for a small price.

I looked at the plain M&S cakes but felt they were a little narrow - but they might be just what you are looking for! I am going for the one either from M&S with the little dots (three tier one, about £199) or same style from Waitrose because they are a bit wider and chunkier... oh I'm so fussy!

It sounds just fine to me, and I'm sure with your little personal touches it will look perfect for your day. You could always buy some cheap diamond brouches and pop them in the centre of the bows on the ribbon to give it a bit of bling x

my mum makes wedding cakes and she said why dont you put ribbon round each cake then rent a cake stand from your local cake shop and look at getting an artificial flowers arrangements to stand on top of each cake the cake shop should point you in the right direction of these too x

maybe you could get some flowers to go on top, if you go onto the m&s web site there is a video that shows you how to stack your cakes up and even has some topper ideas. x

i thought the erason most people have fruit on the bottom is to hold the wait of the layers above? i'm not sure if sponge would do that x

we're doing our cake from M&S coz i like the cake and i work there and get discount

but we're having extra large bottom tier of fruit, large tier of sponge and medium tier of sponge..

what my mum is doing is for bottom tier, putting pink flowers around..middle tier putting just black and pink ribbon around and top tier, putting pink and black polka dot icing circles around it!! we have our initials that were goin to be cake toppers but now i think just goin to put them beside the cake
