How many of you are having menu's on the tables? We have been to 3 weddings in the last 4 years (2 very relaxed and no menu's required, 1 in a posh hotel and cold fork buffet)
Is the menu on the table a neccessity or just an added expense? I cant decide, i think it would be nice to know what your having but then your only going to know for a maximum of 30 mins before it arrives on a plate in front of you!! Opinions please?

We're not having menus :) No point! We are having a buffet though, not a sit down xxx

I think it's pointless to have menu's on the tables. I don't even understand why anyone would have them, unless guests have no idea what they're getting on the day, and if they can't even say 'well I don't want that' it's a bit late anyway?
I don't get it lol

We are having menus as the guests have a choice of two starters and desserts. We're making our own and have bought little easels we are going to paint to stand them on. We're also making our own table plan to match as it's so much cheaper. If it had been a set menu I would have put this next to the table plan rather than adding something else to the table. Hope this helps xx

I've never even thought about this! is this something you're supposed to do? We're not giving our guests a choice of menu so i guess they won't know what they're eating unless they ask us beforehand. But we have very little money so i definitely would not put menu's on the table, they seem like an unneccesarry expense to me xx

Mrscarter2b has a good idea!
We'll probably have the info on our wedding website, if we were having inserts in our invites I'd probably put it in there as well along with asking if anyone has any dietary requirements, allergies, veggies etc.

Are they necessary....................NOT AT ALL!! It's all down to choice hunni so if you can afford to do them then go for it but if you dont want them then don't really up to you
We werent going to have them, then we were going to have one per person then one per table, then we were going to add it to our order of the days and then we were going to add to the back of the name tags lol
What we are now doing is having the full menu in the order of the days with all the choices and in the invites we have asked guests for their choice's we will then put what they choose on the back of their name tags on the day so they can be reminded what they picked!

Our guests are not having a choice, but I am making menus to show them what they are having.....But I am making them myslef, all I am doing is writing it out in Photoshop and printing it off as a photograph at 6 x 4 inches...(20p each at boots) and putting them in a Tolsby frame I got fro Ikea. they are 2 sided and so on the other side I am putting table names...... Total cost each.......approx £1.50
These are not mine, I downloaded them to show what I meant.

Our venue provides menus, but if they didn't I wouldn't be bothering to make my own. Like you said, what's the point? Particularly if your guests aren't going to get a choice of dish, which ours aren't xxxx
CommentAuthorJakesmummy
Our guests arent having a choice so we are prviding a menu simply because I personally would like to know what i am eating before it comes BUT i am making my own and I am just putting out one per table x
CommentAuthorKirst
We are having menus, but only one per table. I hadnt really thought about it until I ordered my stationary and she suggested it was nice for guests to see and could be a conversation starter if you didnt know anyone on the table (although I am sure they can think of something else to talk about!) Our guests arent getting a choice of menu, but at least they can see what they are having to eat :) x x

Id say dont worry about them... Its ur day you pick the menu its just more exspense however everyones different and want different things for their weddings x

I have added inserts into my invites and asked if anyone had any other dietry requirements (such as allergies etc) or prefered a vegetarian option to detail in the rsvp. Lots of my guests have said they really appreciated the information and have chosen the veggie starter as do not like pate. fair enough - i would rather spend money and have guests eat the food, then play with it around the plate.....x also a few have highlighted nut allergies and a gluten intollorant. So what im trying to say is...having the menu's sent out in invites was handy for me xxx

I went to a wedding a couple of years ago - a formal occasion but no menu's. They popped a note in the invites when they sent them out and the waiters/ess asked us our choices at the tables. We also didn't have menu's at ours, but then it was a very relaxed, informal, no sit-down meal...

We are going for a relaxed feel to our day but still having a sit down 3 course H2B thought we were adding inserts to the invites when i mentioned it to him Not sure what to do now! Kev's angel made a good point about people being able to choose in advance as they didn't like one particular choice. We don't want to spend a lot of money and have people pushing the food around the plates! Similarly, we do not want a load of rsvp's with an added "I don't like that!!!"
Hmmmm, plenty of time to decide i guess!!

we are having menus even though its set. Its just nice for guests to know what they will be eating and then if they dont like a course, hopefully they know they will like the next so it wont be the end of the world if they leave e.g. the starter.

I voted make your own - I think if you're having a sit down meal and there are choices they you obviously need them, and even if the guests have seen the menu in the invitation, maybe one menu on the table for people to look at wouldn't hurt :)
CommentAuthormym72
We gave our guests a choice from five dishes for both starter and main course - but we put inserts into the invites and sent them out about 4 to 5 months before the wedding so that they could reply on the rsvp card. They had a choice of dessert on the day - but we didn't have a menu on the tables as the waiter/ress told guests what was available during the reception.
CommentAuthorloustew2012
our venue is doing ours as part of the wedding package, all we have to do is decide on final menu which we keep changing our minds to lol x

Our guests are not having a choice on what they eat but were still having menus.
We are making them ourselves but we are putting the menus on the back of our table number and if our guests want to see what they are having then they can look.
We do have a few veggies, vegans and a couple who can't eat loads of different types of food so they will have a choice put in with their invites.
Cant wait until I become Mrs K
CommentAuthorlinzmum
we are havign a buffet so we are sending out a opyion list with the invites so people can choose their top 5 foods to be added to the buffet. hopefully that way evryone has something they like to eat

I'm undecided on this, but I'll make my own if I do have them. I like the idea of adding it to the seating plan maybe. Oh I don't know! Lol x
CommentAuthoremmaaa
Don't think we'll bother with menus on the tables, we're gonna be a bit squished for space anyway without adding more stuff on the tables, and they're not getting a choice beyond veggie / non-veggie! But definitely letting people know beforehand what the menu is, probably via inserts, I'd absolutely hate to turn up to a wedding with no idea what I was expected to eat, it would really stress me out! And at least if they have pre-warning they can choose to be a veggie for the day if the normal meal doesn't appeal.
CommentAuthorRags
I've voted no, I don't see the point when it's vegetarian, or chicken. But that's just me, if there were a couple of choices then maybe...
