I thought that I really knew my stuff when it came to this but I am confused.

I will have to explain a little, fo example

My dad is called John Smith
My Son is called Dave John (after my dad) Jones
    I am Me Smith

I am changing my name to Me John, so that my Son can use his name as John-Jones if he wishes to have the same surname as mine.

When I get married I want to be knon as Me John-Sin.

My question is this, will I ave to pay twice to change my name? I want the day I get married to be the day I go from John to John-Jones.

I think I have been reading google too much and it has confused me :-(

You can DIY a deed poll for nothing. You just need a signed piece of paper with the right wording witnessed by two adults, no?

Alot of places need some sort of document to change your name. Like some kind of proof of where you are getting the name from. Normally women who change their surnames use the marriage certificate for this, as it has your maiden name on it, and your new hubby's surname on it, so they can see where the change comes from (if you see what I mean).

I don't know what the actual legalities are around the name you wish to be known as, I'm just talking in terms of the practical ie. what stuff you need in order to proof to bank/credit card company, etc etc. where you are getting your name from.

So what would you use in order to change from what you are now, to You John and You John-Jones? ie. where does the John surname come from and where does the Jones come from?

I know you can have more than one surname you are known as on a marriage certificate. When I got re-married, I had stuff I wanted to change into my new surname, but some was in my maiden name, and some was in my ex-husbands surname, so my marriage certificate has me down as "Me Maidenname also known as Me ex-hubbysurname" if that makes sense....
