I was thinking of buying a acrylic nail kit and trying it myself to see if i could save some money for the wedding. Was wondering if any og u girls r doing this or have done? Or r u having them done for you pro? xx

By the time you've bought the kit and spent the time doing it you may as well have gone to a pro. Round me you can ge a full set done for less than £25. My friend did mine with a kit and she's really good at these things and they were falling off within the day xx

I brought a kit as the reviews were very good, one of them said you save loads compared to salon prices, I followed the dvd to the letter and they looked awful! If you have you own nails get them manicured and treated now. I am not having acrylics so long as I can keep my teeth away from them then I will have to. If you can find a mobile nail tech it's no where near salon prices, but when you have acrylics the nail will weaken your own a lot.x

I had acrylic nails for years but took them off when i had my youngest.........it took months for my nails to look anything like nails again.

I have got gel ones now and my nails underneath have never looked better (i take them off every 6 months and leave them off for a about a month).

I say if you can get the them done professionally, you have enough to worry about without wondering if they look ok and if they break you have to find the time to redo them again.

I have heard the gel ones are much better for your own nails, and look better than the acrylics...never tried them though

my nails are all lengths, my left thumb nail is a inch long, yet some of the others recently broke and are only half this length, i am really not wanting to get false nails, so am hoping they sort themselves out soon

I think the actual term is gelish but dont quote me on that, a friend has had them done but I havent so cant personally recommend them, although friend does!! Can you not just get your own manicured and french polished?

the polish that my nail lady uses is like that! I didnt know if it was substandard or not, last time she did them 2 weeks ago I had to take it all off by the end of the day because it was still tacky, I have asked her to do a french manicure next time I see her which is next week just to see how it dries and lasts, if it doesnt dry properly then I don't know what im going to do other than ask her NOT to put a base coat on, perhaps that could be the problem. I am very new to wearing nail varnish. lol

noooooooooooo dont do it.................as a lady who may or may not (cant say incase of advertising tellin off) be a professional in this area i say dont do it, the kits are a complete waste of money..........find a mobile nail tech in ur area hunny n they should be cheaper than the salons just make sure they have insurance!!!!

failing that ask some1 2 buy u a voucher 4 ur local salon as a wedding treat.......... every1s right acrylics arnt gr8 4 ur nails but gel wont be gr8 if ur goin on honeymoon as they have a tendancy to lift if u have ya hands in water a lot.......

shellac gels briliant n aquagel which is a mixture of acrylic and gel is probs wot id recommend for strength n durability x x x

Ok sorry to hijack this thread but....

I'm a NAIL VIRGIN!!! I paint my nails all the time in every colour imaginable. I have quite long nail beds but if they are not kept short they just chip straight away.

Everybody has steered me away from acrylics but I don't understand the gels and what they do? Are the gels an actual nail over the top, or are they a tip or is the gel the polish that goes on and stays put?
    Confused.co.uk!!!! lol

rite gel sort of goes in like a thick polish, its very sticky n normally you'd have a tip put on ya nail which is an extension 2 make em longer n then the gel goes over the top of that n ur natural nail.......... same as acrylic only acrylic is a powder n liquid that u hafta shape to the nail.........

its hard to describe but gels better for your natural nail but acrylics stronger. x x x
