He decided he wanted to lose a bit of weight and get in shape for the wedding so he (and therefore we!) joined a gym (they have a pool and steam room/sauna set up so I don't mind!!) - they agreed to let us buy a monthly pass and to let us also join with a 2nd monthly pass in our circumstances rather than sign up for a whole year. (We may have led them to believe that we might join up long term after the wedding/honeymoon!)

So he went and had his induction and told them his 2 month aim and they worked out a program for him and he thinks his advisor is trying to kill him!!

We've been a lot over the 2 weeks since we joined and he has been doing circuit training and weights.

However, he went to the walk in centre over Easter as he developed a little lump and has been to an urgent appointment with our doctor today who has confirmed that he has a hernia and needs to have key hole surgery to sort it out. They have referred him to the hospital and he just has to wait for a date to come through. Luckily he has health insurance with work or we could be waiting ages as a friend's daughter had to wait ages on her appointment.

I really hope it is all sorted in time for the wedding in 2 months though but he's really worried about it and that has made him a bit snappy. We were supposed to be finalising loads of stuff over the long weekend but didn't get it done as he was too worried to think about wedding stuff. Fingers crossed it is sorted asap so he is well recovered ebfore wedding and honeymoon.

cymrugal that must be quite scary for you and I know how that feels as I had skin cancer nearly 10 years ago now and remember how it felt when waiting for test results etc.

I will of course look after him and take the time off work when the op happens, I was reading that he might have to stay overnight and shouldn't be left on his own for 24 hours afterwards. I will also be taxi driver as he apparently shouldn't drive for a few weeks after the op.

Oh please let it be sooner rather than later for him.

Hopefully I can put your mind at rest :o) I had a hernia op 2 days before christmas, had to have open surgery rather than keyhole, but was still out the same day. Was very uncomfortable for about a week, and your right about the not driving. Make sure he stays on top of his pain medication, great stuff!! In total I had 3 weeks off work, though that was probably a bit over the top :o) I can honestly say that by that time, I was pretty much able to do everything that needed to be done .... he will have to be careful about lifting anything too heavy for about 6 weeks but other than that he will be fine x

Just a quick update on this - he went to see the consultant who said he doesn't think it is a hernia, and it turns out that our doctor didn't think it was either and put this in his referral letter! It was the walk in centre who told him it was in the first place.

Consultant wasn't sure what the lump was, thought it might be a lympoma (?) which is a fatty lump and I know that's not a worry as my mum had one years back.

But he has been for an ultrasound scan today and they think that it is just a section where the lower intestine joins the bowel (I think that is what he said) and something has just made it "pronounce" itself and the lump/swelling should go down. Apparently it is nothing to worry about so we were pleased and relieved to hear that!!

    xx
