My mum was diagnosed with oesophagus cancer a year ago. Several weeks of chemo and radiotherapy followed then in January this year she went for a check up scan. Although the original cancer has gone she now has a secondary cancer spread to her lymph nodes. Lost my dad 5 years ago (I'm 44). She now needs more chemo but the specialist isn't widely optimistic. She maintains she'll be fine for the wedding. I could bring it forward and might seriously consider doing so as I'm pretty sure the venue would be flexible but none of the dresses are due back for another 2 months or so. I really really feel like I've been hit by a truck :(

    :( this makes me sad.
Maybe discuss with the Venue first and then your mum, if the venue agrees to bring it forward at least that way you can say to your mum that the option is there to bring the date forward instead of mentioning it to her first and have her think it's a possibility when it might not be.

As for the dresses, if you can get an earlier date see if they can change the date and get them done quicker too, i'm sure if you explained your situation then they would understand.

Thanks all. Im going down on the weekend. Wedding is 19'weeks we don't know when her chemo will start but I know she needs heart tests and blood work done first. So let's say chemo starts beginning of march? Lasts until middle of April. So may half term during the week could be an option but she's a stubborn old mare and I reckon she won't hear of me moving the date! Xx

I'm sorry to hear this, my great aunt died of the same cancer in 1987.. Her daughter was due to get married in the September/October but due to the news that her Mum was terminal and didn't have long so she brought it forward to the April.... She died at the beginning of June :( not once did she regret moving her date because she got her Mum on the most important day of her life and she got to see her only daughter get married. Just food for thought hun, will your Mum make your wedding date in 4 months time do they think? Dresses arrive in 2 months, can you bring it forward to then if necessary? xxx

awwww hun im so sorry, maybe ask your venue first to see if they are flexible then ring the dress shop and see if they could possibly be sped up ( see if a speed up fee could do the job) and ask your mum what she thinks
i personally would bring it forward xx

I'm going to ring mums oncology nurse tomorrow. See what she recommends. My mum has secondary cancer but is well at the moment. If she starts chemo and isn't well we could look at May half term but I've got 2 kids one doing gcse's the other doing A's. But honestly all your support is amazing thank you xxxx

So sorry. It's surprising what a difference having something to aim for can make.

Hi all. Lots of soul searching and phone calls today. Venue were brilliant and we arranged a date for 7 weeks time. My dress wouldn't have been back but it's only a dress! Mum understood and the oncology nurse agreed to 2 sessions of chemo rather than 6 straight weeks. And then I get a phone call from h2b's specialist. He's waiting for major surgery and guess what?? Been offered an appointment for next week surgery 3rd march. There's no way I can support him, my mum, kids doing gcse's and A levels plus work full time. So back to plan A wedding 28 June. It's only 19 weeks away and gives mum time to get over her chemo. So fingers crossed the old girl is her usual stubborn self and bounces back xx
