GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just had the most frustrating conversation with my Dad regarding our choice of wedding date... Most of you probably know my OH to be (Mrs Rodgers to be) on here- she posts a lot more than I do, but I just need somewhere to get this off my chest!
We were originally planning to get married in June 2016, but after some budgeting and serious thought, we concluded that we just aren't going to have the money to do it then, so then thought we'd have a Winter Wonderland theme wedding and get married on the 23rd December that year instead. All going well and good, lots of ideas flowing, lots of things marked on P1ntere$t etc but then we tell my parents of what we are thinking regarding our wedding.... big mistake. My Dad is a lovely man, but he is anal to the point of extreme regarding travelling and changes of routine... We live in the South East, and are planning to marry in the West Country where my fiancee comes from. Instead of being all excited, or even congratulating us, the first bloody thing he says is "Oh no! I don't want to have to travel near Christmas- the roads are always so awful, and you run the risk of snow etc..." and even when we both said that we wanted to stay down there for Christmas and do a big combined family Christmas with both families- he just point blank refuses "Oh no, I hate travelling around Christmas, I always spend it at home...."
I am absolutely f***ing furious with him at the moment- am I just being a tad Bridezilla-ish and blowing this out of proportion? I was under the impression that this was OUR day- not HIS!!!

At least he's being honest with you from the get go. A lot of people are very set in their ways about what they'll be doing this Christmas and every Christmas until they die. That said he has plenty of time to get used to idea. The most important thing about having weddings during holidays is to give plenty of notice and you've done that.

I know, I appreciate the fact he's honest... it's just the fact that he was so blunt about it- its really upset my OH :(

We go to Spain every Christmas, but I know some people don't like going anywhere. I know it's your special day, but it is a really big thing to ask people to travel a fair distance in the run up to Christmas. I don't think he is being unreasonable, but I also don't think you are either, as it's YOUR big day. Really hope you find a resolution xx

Did he just hear about the date? Maybe he hasn't had a chance to process it. Give him some time and you may be pleasantly surprised. Or you could find that other family members start giving him a hard time about his stance.
How does your mom feel about?

The other family members are giving him quite a hard time over it- they're all quite upset about him being so rude about it- fingers crossed he'll come around to it in time...
Might have to start looking at other dates... I just don't know what to do at the moment- probably should just step back and give him some time to think about it :(

The whole family are on our side and thrilled at getting a Christmas wedding especially as it's the first wedding on her side since 1985.. But when he gets a bee in his bonnet, there is no stopping him until/if he sees sense.. Normally it's oh's mum that makes him see sense but even she is struggling!

Hallelujah!!! She's basically given him a very cruel ultimatum that SHE will walk Debbie down the aisle instead of him if he doesn't agree - We've told him that there are easy transport links there, we can put him in a hotel across the road OPPOSITE the church/venue and we will drive him if necessary down to the west country!!

Haha, I know.. I'm grateful to her though regardless. We didn't tell her to do it, she went out for a stomp about the park, came back half an hour later and demanded 'a word'!! :) x

Definitely!! Now that her Dad's sorted himself out, he's actually getting excited about the idea especially as we have collapsed all his supposed arguments with resolutions :) xxx

I know, but we have said as it's 2 days before that we can easily get back for Christmas. We had hoped with it being that close, that the 7 members of Debbie's family would stay down and have a combined Christmas in Dorset but that's a no go with him too sadly.. As he's been so negative we are re-thinking as we don't want to cause a family feud or upset anyone! 31st Dec 2016 is on a Saturday so we are gravitating towards that now especially as a) it's on a Saturday b) it's a bank holiday so everyone is guaranteed to be free also meaning travel will be easier on New Year's Day given no-one will be working and have to worry about getting back to work quickly c) no clashes with Christmas and any problems there and d) there's no problems with decorating the church or getting hair/make-up/bands etc to the venue that day being so close..... However, I always think it's very romantic around Christmas and means we can spend our first Christmas as a married couple but generally we prefer NYE do to the logistics etc but What do you ladies think?? w

Personally I would not like going to a event that close to xmas, Its hard for people to get it off, as alot of businesses will say to all stay no days off around a week before as its not fair as lots of people want it off but not everyone can, then most places bar restaurants etc are closed on xmas day, and alot of people like to spend xmas at home of have there usual plans.

New years sounds like a much better Idea to me.
