I am a little upset with my family. This is sligtly off wedding topic but my concerns are also apply to the wedding.
Its my mums 50th birthday in a few weeks and non of my cousens or auntys are come to her birhday dinner becuase it is too expensive. I am not super rich but I can stretch to £15 a head for an all you can eat buffet. I get that it is very slightly expensive but its her 50th Birthday and I would pay anything to be there. The dinner has gone from 30 people to 10 and I am truely discusted by my family for not bothering.
I can see this happening at my wedding. I have already been told at least 8 people from myside of the family wont come. This wedding is going to be Marks family only!!! My family just dont seem to care. In a way I am glad I chose a venue so far away because only the people who really give a monkeys will come and I wont be paying for someone to have a free meal. I will be annoyed if anyone else drops out because 'its too expensive'. There getting a free meal for god sake and it will double has a holiday grrrrr.
Makes me laugh when my family (mums side) wont travel from Manchester to Durham when my dad's sister (only relation on my dad side who is invited) is coming from Hong Kong!!!!!

im not being funny but how is £15 expensive???? yes its dearer than your fiver meal in the pub but do they not realise that its cheaper than a pub if you take into account what they would spend on meal and pudd? Id have a chat with them to see what the score is for your wedding to see what type of attitude they have just incase they aregue that plying themselves with alcohol depsuite free food is too expensive. They have no reason to drop out of the 50th. Even in times like this it is not that expensive. Bloody hell, I wish our meals were only 15 a head!

my family are the same, the have a 10 min car ride to the church , a 30 min ride from their to the church, then a 20 min ride back home at night. and they can not afford that.They dont need to pay for anything else (and since they have a car the journey wouldnt cost much), but told my mum 3 days ago that they could not afford to come. They gave me 3 weeks 3 days notice, that they would not come cause they cant afford it, although my aunt gets her wages 5 days before the wedding (her and my mum work in the same place - thus why i know this) I couldn't believe it.
Chin up oct, the main thing is that you and oh is their, thats all that matters, if they cant be bothered with a short trip or think £15 is expensive, then dont waste your breath on them.

if they came to glasgow thy could -chinese buffet starting at £6 - £10 and taste brill - no wonder my dress was tight o-O , lol only kidding, their is cheaper, but on the other hand their is far more dearer places than that.Most places will charge you £20 a person for a 3 course meal (or at least up here they do)
Got family the same as mcewen but also family that are travelling down to me in the south from Peterborough area and paying out to stay over so that they can be with me! If they're not willing to make any effort I don't think I'd want them there anyway!

yeah i didnt mention, that all andy's family (and a few of mine) are coming from birmingham area to west scotland (about 290 miles)to be their for my big day - yet she will not go 9 miles. ( or taking the reception into account) 35.9 miles round trip to be their.

That is terrible! £15 is hardly expensive! I would be fuming if all my family were dropping out over something as petty as £15! If they arent willing to pay that then you dont want them there anyway! Thats the way Id look at it!
Saying that though like you I can imagine alot of my family complaining when it comes to my wedding about getting to the venue, Its not way out of the way but the places I have as my favourites arent as close/easy to get to as my cousins wedding last month for example but I dont care-one is next to a beach! If my family dont like it and cant be bothered to come then Im glad they arent coming as like you say, Im not paying for them to have a 'free meal' if they arent even prepared to travel half an hour to come!
It'll most likely be mainly h2b's family there!

The place we are going has food from all over the world being served so you have a huge choice probably hence the £15 a head. I get really annoyed when I read my cousen has gone out for her own birthday, no expense speared, yet she cant Afford £15 for my mums birthday. My mum was really upset because no one wanted to come celebrate her birthday with her. She has been really poorly lately she could have done with a little support. She never asks her sisters or nieces for anything she just gets on with it on her own. I just feel so angry...
As for my wedding I counted the number of people who will be coming to support me. 12 people (8 family 4 friends) that is coming to support me. There are 40 on H2B side....
