I have made my own invite (see in my photos), and i'm rather quite proud of them.
MIL2b told me i shouldn't make them as they'll look awful and that i should get them made. If i got them made for the type that i like, it would cost £5 each whereas these have cost me £50 to do 100. I have loads of ribbon and lace etc left over so i can do the name cards etc in the same way. Being on such a tight budget, I thought this was great.
Anyway, the insert (which i haven't put a picture up of because it has all the details on there), has a miniture version of a print i made for OH when we fisrt started dating 6 years ago. Everyone who has visited my home has seen this print and know the meaning as it's hanging over my fire place.
So, I shown MIL2b the insert before i'd made the invites and she said, "oh no, I don't like that. Joe looks naked!!"
I was so offended! This is my artwork that i lovingly spent hours making for your son! It's a black and white oriental inspired print which has a silloutte of us both. A SILLOUETTE!! He's not naked!!!
It put me off making them for months until OH sat me down and told me i need to stop being silly and ignore everyones opinions (she was the only one with one!), and lets get started on them. Plus she was nagging him that the invites hadn't been sent out yet.
So i bought the best quality card, paper etc i could find....
I absolutely loved it, you should have seen her face! She was like "I thought you were making them? I told you you should have bought them, they ook so much better".
JOE said... yes JOE lol "Hayley did make them Mum!" Hahahaha!!! Her face was a picutre! Then she opened it up and went "I see you still kept that then! Don't you think it's a bit too early to be sending them out!!"
OMG you can not please this woman at all!!!!
WOW! I seem to have gone on a bit of a rant about it haha! Love that i have these forums to come to, i'd be lost without them! xxx

Love it. Bet she felt a right n0b. We're starting to get niggling issues with my MIL2B as well, it's do annoying as I want to involve her and she wants to be involved but I told tom the attitude she has about some of the stuff we're throwing out ideas about is making me not want to tell her a thing!
H2b certainly had the right idea, good on him for sticking up for you and getting you to do them. It's so deflating when someone tries to put a damper or your ideas/plans
Wibbly wobbly, timey wimey

What have YOUR invites got to do with your mother in law? lol

What a wonderful moment! I so wish you'd had a video camera. Only shame is, if Joe had kept quiet until after she'd looked at the insert, she might have loved that too. It's not too early, we're sending ours in January for an August wedding because we need to get in before people book holidays. My MOH warned us off sending them early on the grounds that people might say yes and then no, but it's fine because our venue doesn't need final numbers and payment until a month before, so we can cope with changed. In order to keep her happy you could always hold her invite back and send it later.
30th August 2014 was the best birthday ever.
It was the day that I became Mrs. Dixon.

I think your invitations are beautiful, very classy and not at all home made looking.

Thanks for all your lovely replies.
I've decided to send the invites out in the next week or so purely because we're getting married on a Thursday so people will need to book time off work etc. It just makes sense to us to give our guests plenty of notice.
My BMs absolutely love my invites and my Dad is really proud of me for them so that's another big up yours lol!!
My Dads approval is the best approval ever! xxx

What kind of glue are ou using? I used a craft spray, it does wood and everthing but it's the best and so quick and easy to use. xx
CommentAuthorRoxanneV
think its just called craft glue (pva) xx
CommentAuthorHayley Elizabeth
Oooh yeah and are you having to wait for it to dry etc? xx
CommentAuthorRoxanneV
yeah x

Deffo recomend getting the craft spray sweets, you can buy it in the supermarkets for about £3, it's in the kiddies crafty part.
It will save you loads of time and stress, dries in about 20 seconds. you think that it's not going to stick with being dry but it does.
Also is perfect for the lace as you can't see the glue at all once it's dried xxx

il give it a try! thank you, will probably be much better for the lace xx
