Now before i go of on one i just want to point out i have asked for my bridesmaids opinions and this is what they think im not angry just confused and not sure what to do :)

Ok so i have 5 Bridesmaids one being MOH and a flower girl (my niece) 6 all-together. After alot of changing and stressing i finally decided on the color scheme i want at my wedding. I also found bargain bridesmaid dresses which are exactly what i was wanting! The problem is my bridesmaids don't like the color of the dresses and say my color scheme looks odd and doesn't match. :( Ive never been great at imagining what things will look like without seeing them first but after putting all the dresses in a pic together i thought it looked nice. Obviously my maids say they will wear anything i want but now im not sure if it goes and don't want to buy the dresses and regret it! Were on a tight budget and ill be ordering the dresses from overseas so postage alone would cost a fortune to return them.

I dont know if im allowed to post pics ive made on here (if so i will put the pic up) and you can let me know what you think

Colours will be Ivory (for me ofcourse) Lilac for 4 of my maids and dark purple for MOH. Flower girl will be wearing ivory also with a Dark purple sash. Any opinions will be greatly appreciated. xx

I don't see why those colours wouldn't go together.

If you're not a power user then you can post the pictures into an album and we can look at them there.

Thanks ill try a put the pic on my page.... im still trying to work everything out on here! At the moment i think my maids will be paying for their dresses (not my choice, they insisted)... well some of them anyway. However the dresses i have found are only £20!!! Id be more than happy to pay for them as my H2B also has a best man 4 groomsmen and we have 2 boys a 3rd on the way who will all be requiring full kilt attire and although were hoping they will chip in as some of you may know its not cheap to hire so many kilts! x

I don't see why it wouldn't go, I think it would look quite nice...can you get them to try on similar dresses/colours and see what they think?

One thing to think about with overseas retailers is custom charges and import duty. Typically, for a £100 pound dress from USA it will cost an additional £30 - £40 in import tax - a lot of the sites don't mention this and the first thing you hear about it is when the courier telephones you and say they have your dress but you need to pay the charge before you deliver it - i know a few people who have been caught out with this, just make sure you factor it in when budgeting.

i wouldnt change my whole colour scheme just because the bms dont like it, im having blue, its what i want and it fits the entire theme, regardless of who is paying for the dresses if that's your theme, that's your theme, and changing it would mean the whole colour scheme through the day would need changing to please other people. and that's not on. Normally, i would say, if they are paying for the dresses, then really there's only so much input you can have - but not for the colour itself.

It isn't about making them 'come round' it's about them wearing the colours you have chosen.

Thankyou all yous have put my mind at rest... think they maybe just all want to wear the dark purple! Love the comment whos wedding is it? 3 of my bridesmaids are my sisters and other 2 are very close friends so although its my wedding i suspect they may be thinking its partly theirs too! lol. Im just going to go for it and if they dont like it,tough! Ive still to show a couple of the maids the pic so maybe theyll think differently. Thanks again, this site really is fantastic for helping out with the stresses of planning the big day :) xx

Hi, I think all the dresses go lovely together, what do you think about putting a dark purple sash on the lilac dresses and a lilac sash on the dark purple? I think it would really tie the dresses together then :)

Looking at the picture i think looks lovely but have you thought that if they really not happy how about having them all in lilac and having the sash bit in dark purple, maybe having the MOH in a short dress so it still bit different to otheres (like photo iput on the BM were in short and the MOH had a long dress) x

It is ur day but i do think the girls need to be comfortable and resonably happy x

Thanku! Thats a very good idea! Im planning having dark purple bouquets with the lilac dress and lilac bouquet with the purple. Do you think that would still look ok with sashes?

Yes, but I would put a few of each other colours in the bouquets aswell, so mainly lilac with just say 3 or 4 purples (depending on which flowers you use) and the opposite colours for the other bouquet if you know what I mean x

Its the lilac colour they dont like so i dont think having them all in it would make them happier. Im thinking of maybe buying one of the dresses to show them. I remember being a BM a while ago and the pic of the dress we were wearing was horrible, not that i said anything but when i seen the dress on it was beautiful! Couldnt understand how id not liked it in the first place! Might cheer them up a bit and if not im sure well work something out... aslong as i dont have to change my colors im happy :)

Oh and my MOH is in her early 40's so asking her to wear a short dress is off the cards... i think shed kill me :/ the rest of them range from ages 22-30.

Thanks Karen as i said above my big sis (MOH) is slightly ;) older than the others so thought it would be nice to have her in a different color also. Shes not one for dresses full stop so atleast shell have a nice dark one on xx

I really dont want my BM's feeling uncomfortable so hoping we can all come together and work something out! Fingers crossed! :)

Instead of buying the dress can you see if the shop will send you a colour swatch? As you can have a load of different lilacs, and even though you've said the dresses are a really good price why waste any money if you can. Good luck in whatever you get anyway x

Oh and sweet peas were my MOH's idea, shes paying for our cake and having it specially made so the baker had mentioned sweet peas for the sugar flowers and it changed my whole idea for bouquets etc i love them :) x

How does the MOH feel about lilac? Could you swap them round so the bridesmaids wear dark purple and the MOH wears lilac? Or let them all have dark purple dresses and the MOH could have a fancy hair piece? The lilac could be incorporated in the bouquets.

I know its your day,and ultimately your choice, but I think i'd be tempted to let them have some input in this case. Have a chat with them and see if you can all come up with a plan that incorporates lilac and dark purple, makes the MOH stand out, and that everyone is happy with.

Well ive got one of the bridesmaids coming round just now so will have a chat with her and see how she feels about it all. She was the first one to say she didnt like the lilac so best person to talk about it with! My MOH would prefer to not wear the lilac as shes a bit older than the rest but i know she would wear anything i asked her to.... she seems to be the only one that would have everything my way lol. Im hoping they come around but definitely dont want them not liking what theyre wearing.... they are the ones thats gonna be running around for me after all :) Will speak with them all when i get a chance and update yous with our decision. I so hope this is just a wee bump in the road and not a sign of whats to come! ;) x

The tartan dress threat made me laugh as my big sis (MOH) had her SIL wear an all tartan dress! It was a red and white wedding so my sis wore a red wedding dress and her poor BM was left wearing all tartan.... and i mean a bright red and green tartan! Me and my younger sisters got away with white dresses and red roses as we were so young.... thank god for that! ;)

Ive seen a few photos of weddings with my colour choice and i think it looks lovely together too! I suspect its now just one BM thats not keen on the dress.... i may have acted a bit bridezilla around the others and they have now decided they like them! Haha. If all else fails threaten to cancel the whole thing and elope... Seems to have worked for me! :) xx
