I will be 38, I have 2 teens and a 10 yr old from my first marriage so I don't want a big wedding dress, but all the thigh to knee length dresses I've found make me look girly rather than a sexy woman. Have any of you lovely ladies spotted a dress that will get me the look I want (without making me look like the mother of the bride either)? Thank you :0)

I tried a Justin Alexander which was very Audrey Hepburn, it was beuatiful and still looked like a wedding dress.

Don't pick a dress just because you think you *ought* to look a certain way. I'm 40 and not on my first marriage, but I'm still wearing a proper wedding dress (pics on profile).
There are loads of dresses that have a more subtle outline, and aren't the traditional big skirted affair. Check out also "destination" wedding dresses (ie. one that people often wear when they get married abroad) - these are just as beautiful, but sometimes have a more mature silhouette.

I'm 44 and getting married for the first time and I'm wearing a wedding dress as well......I went along the line of something that is more slimline....and I love it on me!!! If you want the dress.....I say go for it. xx
why not go for a floaty grecian style wedding dress? they are beautiful and suit women of all ages and still very very weddingy! i have to agree with the girls though, just because you are going to be 38, doesnt mean you will look like 'mutton dressed as lamb'. if you re worried about strapless, get cuffed sleeves or a lace shrug thingy cant remember what they are called but you know what i mean lol) try on some different styles and see what you like! xxx

Are you avoiding the big wedding dress just because you think you should? Or because you truly want to? I first started our wedding plans thinking I would do a smart simple dress but ended up with a 'proper' wedding dress because I realised thats what I really wanted, to be a princess for the day as it would be my last chance! I am 40 with 3 teenagers and no-one thought it was inappropriate, in fact everyone commented on how perfect it was! Even for a registry office wedding. My tip - go and try some on, all different styles and see what feels right! xx

i am 43 and have grown up children and a grandson, but i am still having a traditional dress and i dont think i look too old for it, as i have gone for a dress that is not over fussy, and not white, i think it looks lovely and feel very much the bride even if i am older :) x
I have know my soulmate for 27 years and on the 6th August

im 48 on friday !!!!!!! and am having a full length dress ( in my picture album)...
you wear what YOU want to wear....if you are happy you will look fantastic
This will be my second wedding and i'll be 36 at the time. I had a big dress the first time around for the church wedding and have been so undecided about this one which will be a civil wedding in a hotel. I've tried on some lovely A-line dresses that looked fab but I didn't feel right in them. In the end I saw a pattern (for the one on my profile) and my mum is going to make it in ivory for me. It's a bit like a column/mermaid type thats quite simple yet still weddingy. I tried a similar one on in a shop to make sure the style suited me and I fell in love with it. Go with what you feel and don't be dictated to by others.

Jo, I am 47 and my other half is 52 and I didn't want to look silly either but it is still OUR wedding day and so after chatting about it I am wearing a full length bridal dress in diamond white (soft ivory) and H2B is in morning suit with a nero collar. It is still a date we want to share with family and friends and have all that we would have had if we were 20 years younger. I think the most important thing that you need to think about a little more if you are older is the colours you choose. Ive gone for black and white, lala has gone for that too I think. If it was baby pink I might feel odd but so far it looks classey in my opinion.
If you really don't want a "big" dress then I would suggest either a tea-length dresses or maybe one of the destination dresses mentioned above. Good luck with making your chioce but choose what you love and not something because its not your first wedding, you have kids, your age etc... we should all want to be princesses on our wedding day xxx

I am almost 58 and I wore a 'proper' wedding dress..albeit not a sticky out one...but an empire line one, a bit grecian, with a train. I hope i didn't look like mutton dressed as lamb..judge for yourself..wedding day pics are on my profile..Wear whatever you want to..and what makes you feel special xxx

Loobyscooby you do not look your age at all. I think you need to start sharing your beauty tips. I agree with the others though if you like the style of something go for it. Don't worry what other people will think just wear what suits you and you feel good in.
