If any of you really want a string quartet or harpist or some kind of other musician have you thought about using music students? we got our quartet through a group, we saw them at my friends wedding last year and they were great and only cost £400. I will share the name of the group on my wall if anyone is interested

good idea - the only thing I would say about that is make sure you listen to them first! I did a music degree and my major study was performance, and the weakest players on our course were the string players - I wouldn't have paid them to play at my wedding! For that reason, I've steered away from students but to be honest, I'm probably being a bit cynical because of the experience I had of string students at uni!!! lol. We've got a 'professional' quartet for the whole day for £500 (because I know the lead violinist) so I guess it wouldn't have worked out much cheaper anyway xxx

we are paying £400 for the string quartet, when i shopped around they varied from £750 to £900, i would have been wary but i heard them at my friends wedding, not sure what any of the others are like or if you can ask for a sample of their music when you enquire x

yeah they are really really expensive!! its ridiculous, but then they can charge what they like cant they? people will pay it if they want one, its not fair really...we're just lucky that I happened to know the guy that runs ours - it was purely by chance, I recognised his name when he responded to my email and he knocked some money off because he remembered me. Also he's not available that day so he's replacing himself with a student (aaargh! haha) so he knocked some off for that too. I've never heard them play live, just on recordings so I hope they're good - they have some good reviews so fingers crossed xxx
