Just debating with hubby to be...

He's keen to have a violinist at the ceromony to play the music (sitting down the guests, my entrance, signing the register etc)

We have found one who is 270 for two hours, so she could play for the champagne and canapés after too. She has a good repertoire including some really good model songs.

    I'm just not convinced
    A) it's worth the money when we could just have it all on cd and
    B) is it going to be extra hassle on the day?

I do think it would be a nice touch though and I'm quite torn....

What are you lot doing xx

I had exactly the same question a few weeks ago but the priest said we'd need someone to play the CD at the appropriate times and ensure they played the right song - I'm not a bridezilla but I would just expect something to go wrong and I forgot we'd need music for our hymns so needed an organist anyway. When I went to meet her, I found the church had a piano to use instead of the organ - fantastic in my opinion - and she played the songs I wanted for each stage which was amazing and exactly what I wanted. Could you arrange to meet the violinist to see how you feel about it then? the difference is we only have to pay £100 but she's only there for the ceremony x

I would go with live music everytime, there are too many things that could go wrong with relying on technology! Lol x

That's a good point, I didn't even think of people messing up the music playing!

And I suppose it cuts out the hassle of burning songs onto cd etc and then the venues sound system messing up etc...

Plus, I was thinking I wanted madness it must be love for our exit, but the rest I would like classical, so I think madness it must be love would fit in really well on violin, whereas the cd version might not work so well with the classical music? Xx

We are having an acoustic guitarist and singer for the ceremony, between room turn around from wedding breakfast to evening reception and for our first dance. £350.

I really have a thing against CDs (no offence to anyone), and wouldn't even consider one for the ceremony; music is really important to me, I think it helps make the atmosphere, and IMO a CD is just not the same as live music; the sound is different, you don't have the visual stimulation of seeing someone actually play, etc. Plus, as mentioned above, you would need someone to stand at the back and play the CD, which again I didn't want, as we're having a fairly small, intimate ceremony that we want everyone to feel included in, and wouldn't want to ask someone to 'take a back seat' (quite literally lol). IMO £270 is money well spent; I also think it's nice for the guests while they wait.

Thanks girls, I think I will go ahead and book. It wasn't originally in the budget, but we can quite easily stretch to it I think.

I agree, I think it will make it that bit more special xx

It depends on what you want in terms of sound. The song I'm walking down the aisle to is really important to me, it's been covered many many times but I absolutely adore the Alison Krauss version. If somebody else was to sing it, or an instrumental version was played then it wouldn't be the same, so it's definitely a CD for me. I'd be happy to have live music for the rest of it, but not for that one song. It's not about the money for us as I know several very very good musicians, but finding one to play the full range of songs we want would be almost impossible.

We had a CD of classical music chosen by us for each part of the ceremony. Tbh it was no different from having someone playing it live - only that given the size of the venue and ceremony room, it wouldn't have been practical to have live music. If I were you I'd think about the size of your venue and how many guests will be there as well - as someone playing live in a room that's packed with people wouldn't have the right atmosphere either.
