Me and oh bought our first house back in 2013.. Got the keys on my 20th birthday!
The house was in a state of disrepair and we've done a full renovation .. We got the house at a fantastic price and didn't intend to stay here long.
Anyway first jobs we had done was new roof and bathroom then proceeded to get the rest of the house plastered and decorated before getting new front and back doors and then did the kitchen then as a finishing touch put some decking in the yard with a strip of grass to make it more homely
I LOVE what we've done to the house and a bit sad about seeing it go but I said that I wanted a bigger house for ozzy this summer.
We never intended to get a dog but he needed rescuing the same day and was on fb and we fell in love so a little 6 month old bundle of joy came home.
Well now said Alsatian staffy is 5 stone and full of beans and he needs a garden so we need to sell.
We had the house valued and it was more than we expected and the estate agents couldn't believe what they walked into for a terraced house they loved it.
I've decided on the estate agents and emailed them today to arrange the photos .. There goes my weekend as the house is a tip!
I'm sad that were leaving but excited to get a bigger place with a big garden for ozzy and drive and garage (hopefully) which will be like our first family home
But I'm also so nervous about getting it sold and moving into another house so close to the wedding (that is if ours is sold quickly like the estate agents think) and it's nearly Christmas
I'm stressing just at the thought of it has anyone else been in a similar situation ? Am I mad as I feel taking on a house move as well!? I can't deal with my poor pooch not having a garden for another summer for the sake of the wedding!
Financially we should be ok because I have a fair bit saved up and we'll have added about £30000 onto the value of our house and if money's tight mums already said she wants to pay half of the wedding so I could make up the other half ..
Thoughts!?

Buying a house is the reason we are getting married in 2017. House to buy in 2016 and I couldn't cope with the stress. Same as you, financially we could have done both but I am not good at dealing with stress in general so for me it was always a big no no.
If you are organised then there is no reason why you cant. How much have you left to organise for the wedding? try to space it out so that you leave days for wedding, days for house and days for relaxing. you don't want to be running round doing both of them and not having the time for the 2 of you to sit down and relax without talking about either.

We're fairly organised for the wedding in truth all suppliers are booked .. Sorting the flowers now too.
It's the time consuming things left like invjtes and other stationery and pew ends and things then church and venue arrangements music and reading choices etc .. Sounds like not a lot but I'm sure it will be a mountain!
CommentAuthorMichelleC961
Awww how exciting, starting married life in a new home too- housing are selling quick at the moment, especially if they are a good size and location, period terraced houses always sell quick round where I live
CommentAuthorBecci93
Hope so! Would prefer it to be this year rather than next to give me more time to sort everything .. Plus I need an extra room for all the wedding things!
I'd love to be able to get the new house and most rooms renovated by the wedding for when oh gets ready in the photos but can't see that happening
You only need one room to look nice for OHs getting ready photos
If you think you can do it then go for it. It sounds like you have a lovely place that will be snapped up. Have you found anything you want to buy? X

We ended up graduating, moving house, getting married and getting a new puppy this year all in the space of 3 months! Anything is doable if you want to!

We got engaged in January 2012, put both our homes on the market, hubby moved out of his place after selling it on the day of the Olympics opening ceremony, my flat then got sold but to family so they allowed us to say there until we were in a position to move. We had an offer accepted in August for our house, got the keys in November but the house was not habitable, not safe at all with no central heating or any heating in the middle of winter plus wiring etc etc was not safe. So entire house was stripped down to the brick and renovated, including substantial work outside, we knocked walls down and built walls. In April 2013 we moved into our new home, 5 weeks before the wedding!
All that in a year when my job was at risk of redundancy and we were planning our wedding. I also lost a beloved close family friend who treated me like his own granddaughter.
It can be done, you just need to be organised and set your priorities.

I think IDL has said it all there.
Organisation. I never moved house when getting married. However, I planned my wedding throughout the toughest year of my degree. Midwifery/nursing is tough in the2nd year, very very tough. Basically, they say if you can make it through the 2nd year, you can make it through the third and pass. I got married at the start of my third Year so all the planning was done through my second. One of my mentors thought at one stage I was too preoccupied in my wedding planning for my training, this was not so, it was more a case of my Nan passing 6 months prior to the wedding. I think as long as you are organised, good at time management things will work out.

TBH I am surprised that we managed it all and managers I worked with also commented on how I managed to juggle and cope with it all. I think though that people are more resilient than we give ourselves credit for and when you set your mind to things its amazing what you can achieve.

It is tough at times but as long as you are organised then you will be fine! Lists and spreadsheets are your friends!

My brother moved the same time as getting married, but that was into a rented house. It's entirely doable I'm sure if you plan ahead. With a house sale and purchase there is a lot of time when you are just hanging on waiting for the solicitors to do their job, which can take weeks. You can be planning the wedding during this time, and then once contracts are exchanged you can factor in the time to move and unpack. You'll just need to avoid committing yourself to too much around the time that you expect to move. The difficulty is that moves can take longer than anticipated. You'll need to be open from the start about your wedding date and have a two or three week period marked when you absolutely cannot move. Then other parties can't complain when you say a particular date is no good for completion.
30th August 2014 was the best birthday ever.
It was the day that I became Mrs. Dixon.
CommentAuthorBecci93
Yeah, if it doesn't sell by say April may time I'll probably pull it off the market until after the wedding - I stress over the smallest of things as it is
CommentAuthorElinor Claire
It's so unpredictable. Ours sold really quickly, around Easter, and we thought we'd move mid-June, but the solicitors were faffing about (they always do), and there was a problem with a document that the land registry should have had and didn't, and our buyer started faffing about with electrical things, so we ended up not moving until mid-August. As long as your buyer and your seller know in advance that there is a period of time that you absolutely cannot move it should be fine, as if they try to push you to move in that time (say between a couple of weeks before the wedding and a couple of weeks after returning from honeymoon), you can just say that you have said all along that period of time is not possible.

Yeah I suppose .. They're coming to take the photos on Friday :( It took us AGES to get this house about 4 months because of issues with land registry and owners of the estate being deceased etc .. Fingers crossed for a quick sale!
Best get tidying and finish touches out!

Being organised is your best key and by the sounds of it you have it under control. We put our house on the market in April accepted an offer start of June moved into my parents 31st July, married 15th August and we finally moved into our new house 9th oct it was a new build and we couldn't conclude missives until we had the security of our house being sold hence why we moved in with my parents, we go on honeymoon in less than 2 weeks and I can quite honestly say I can not wait as it is much needed.
People think we are crazy for moving out two weeks before the wedding but the wedding was under control . Put your mind to it and you will do it, if you put obstacles in the way then it will be more difficult.
Good luck x
