    hi girlies!!!
    omg what a day!!!!!!!!
went to church this morn and took MIL with me as she had never seen our church then went for coffee and was generally talking wedding which was great!!! She said to me o did Chris (OH) mention St Jeromes to you...yes he had....we decieded to go and have a look around and its much better than the Legion, more spacious with a stage extra facillities GREAT!........now were getting married in a CofE church and our reception venue is RC doesnt in the slightest bit bother me or h2b ONE IOTA we just see it as a building that suits our needs that just happens to be RC.......my mum and sister however seems to have a major problem with it (were not really that religious anyway) saying its weird your marrying in a CofE church then going to RC people will think its odd...my answer was " i dont see it as RC im seeing as a building which suits what were looking for" then all hell broke loose and i walked out!!!!! Met my dad on the way home and hes like "right im telling them straight its got f**** all to do them etc etc its yours n chris's day etc etc" (i like my dad!)....anyhooo STRESS!!!!!

I think it is fine, if however you were to have ceremony in a religious building but neither of you were from this religion it might be weird, but for reception I don't see a problem

I can't see a problem with it myself. I am having a similar situation where I am CofE and h2b is Greek orthodox. We are getting married in a CofE church and his family arent happy with it at all. But h2b told them that it is our day and our decision to get married in CofE. If they are both the buildings that you want the religion shouldn't play a part in it. As lala said, a building doesn't have a religion, it's just what we decide to give it. I am sure everyone will come round to it in the end when they realise they actually have no say, mine have xxxxx

I dunnoooo, I kinda understand your mums issue.

Celebrating a CofE marriage in a RC church hall is kind of disrespectful from a religious point of view, you're either one or the other and you stick to it. It's not really too different from marrying CofE or RC and then having your reception in a synagogue. It just seems wrong.

You can't even really get away with saying "but we're not that religious" because if you're not then surely it's not right to be getting married in a church in the first place.

I'm all for your day, your way but I think religion is a touchy subject with a lot of people so you have to be careful with it.

Sorry if I said anything upsetting!

we looked into using religious buildings for our reception. i don't believe in god and neither does h2b (but he's officially catholic). if the church/chapel had an issue with it, they wouldn't let them use it. it's not their religion or their church/chapel that has a problem, it's people. people who should mind their own business. the church/chapels have no problem taking the money off you, so don't worry what some people think. you're sole purpose in lofe is not to please everyone else

hunni, dont be bullied into going to a venue where you dont want to go to! its your day and it should be your way! if you are not religious then the building has no meaning to you in that way, so dont worry about it. Im sure your guests dont want a brief religious education lesson on the religious properties of buildings that people get married in.

when i say "were not that religious" i meant myself and my family i still believe enough to marry in church and i think you could say:

"You can't even really get away with saying "but we're not that religious" because if you're not then surely it's not right to be getting married in a church in the first place. "

if i was an atheist that would be true but am not besides Chris and his family r religous and they dont have a problem with it..... i just think people need to move with the time with regards to religion....
i respect your opinion but i spose its each to their own....i just dont know what to do.....

anyway, another thing it says in the bible that there shouldnt be any shrines to god, so if people wanna get on their high horse about where you should and shouldnt be getting married, in the eyes of god, the buildings have no purpose anyways.

    Marry away darling! x

what you should do, is go with what you and h2b wants, if you two are happy then thats what matters, dont have that taken away from you! x seriously put your foot down and say NO! x

I still think you should do what you damn well please lol. I just see how other people might have an issue with it. I'm atheist myself but I know how weird people get with religion!

I think religious or not though people can get too caught up in doing "what's right" for fear people will judge them badly. Hopefully they come around and see it's not important though!

Families! I think your dad's trying to calm your mum down now and find a compromise. You have what you want, my C of E boys went to a RC Primary school and went through the first communion with the catholic children. They learned all the same prep, wore the same red sash, only thing different is they were blessed, they didn't have the wafer. It was lovely. You can mix the two, what's wrong with that? :/

    Sorry, hadn't seen this before.
I really don't see what the problem is - it's not like you're having the reception actually IN a RC church, just the hall. I'm sure plenty of clubs etc use that hall - that would be like saying "oh you can't go to THAT weightwatchers/zumba/kindergarten as it's in a RC church hall and you're CofE", ridiculous!
    Yum hog roast! :) Xx
