We are just getting the ball rolling, chosen the venue, met with the vicar and starting on the catering.......ever since we set a date my soon to be mother in law hasnt stopped telling me i cant do this and i must have that and telling me who my bridesmaids should be, who i can invite. Is this normal?? I dont want to upset anyone but its our wedding and if we want a small wedding with only immediate family is that ok or should i cave and do what they want?!

I think a lot of us have had this problem in varying degrees. Mine isn't too bad, just occassionally butting in with cheaper alternatives to what me and h2b have picked for cakes, favours etc. But we have a pretty good relationship so can tell her if I don't like the idea she has given. Sorry you seem to have an interfering MIL2b, but you just have to sit her down and be nice but firm with her about what you want. Find something you are happy to let her help with so she has something to occupy her busy little body, lol. xx

unfortunatley h2b parents are both dead, so i havnt had this problem but his 3 sisters have not been involved at all.

however i have had my family telling me the same sort of things and i would say tell her now it is your wedding and you will have it your way otherwise she will just keep going on and the situation will get worse!! xx

You just need to have a word, or ask your h2b to have a word, and explain as nicely as possible that it is your day and you and h2b know what you want, but also say if you need any help you'll be sure to ask, that way she doesn't see it as a complete snub :)

Yes my MIL2B is like this! Keeps saying 'when i had my wedding i did this and that, u should do it too' Well erm no!!!
Im actually pretty evil doing this but im going to have a poem in a frame and have all the special people from my life that cant be there names on it! (Im not telling H2B because i want to do it not that he would be bothered anyway)
I know she'l be pee'd off that we hadnt put her mothers name in it but i never met her! That will be my little satisfaction haha!

I wouldn't say it was normal although many girlies have had the same problem. I wish I could help out with this one hun but I haven't had that experience as of yet.

You just have to stay strong and do what you want, do not give in. xxx

I'm really hoping my future in-laws don't start laying down the law, they are pretty laid back people and so far have only asked casually if we have set a date yet. Which we haven't. Fingers crossed they help out but in a good way!

Can't wait until the day I become Mrs. Johnson :)

Glad its not just me, we were only having 45 people at the ceremony and meal butnow she is chipping away at the h2b to invite more and more people. I wouldnt mind if she was helping out with the costs. Thanks for the advice, got until next may so sure she will get bored sooner or later hehe x
