Do you think it's fair to give your mum a good push in the right direction when it comes to picking their outfit?

I had to lol she was really difficult. She was choosing things that really didn't look right at all. But all sorted after a personal shopper experience

Personally I would say no. I want my mum to be comfortable on the day so she can wear whatever she wants to. I wouldn't want her in something that she didn't like or feel comfortable in just because I thought it was better xxx

Reason why I'm asking is that I've just been having a little look on a few sites, seen a few dresses I like the look of for her and posted them on her Facebook page for her to look at, don't want her to feel offended tho. But she does have a tendency to go to weddings in the same pinstripe suit but want a bit more attention for her at my wedding...nice dress, nice shoes, nice hat or fascinator x

I wouldn't make her wear something, I just think u can be surprised when u try different things u wouldn't normally and sometimes a push out their comfort zone is what it takes x

I'm going to have to nudge my mum as she's the type of person who buys the size she feels rather than the size she is, which is usually 2 sizes too big lol.. But I love her fashion sense when she's in her 'confident in herself' phase so it should be easy enough.. I have said no big hats though lol, but that's a running joke in our family as my aunties tend to wear scary big hats just because its a wedding.. xxx

I might take her shopping for something, but I wouldn't demand she wears something of my choosing.

My mum looked herself at first - but wasn't getting anywhere so I arranged to have a shopping day with her. Tbh she drove me made lol, as she just couldn't decide on anything - but once she'd tried on 'the' outfit, I managed to persuade her to buy (with a bit of help from the sales assistant lol). I did finish up walking around another half dozen shops before she finally went back to buy though.

The problem we found was that my mum is only just over 5' and in her seventies - so dresses tended to be too long/young for her. In the end she got a gorgeous skirt, matching top and jacket from Jacques Vert.

I think it's fine to give them a gentle nudge towards something they wouldn't normally try - they might discover the perfect item that they would never have considered on there own.
As long as you don't unduly pressure her into an outfit that she isn't comfortable with, it can be a really nice experience - after all, I'm sure your mum had an opinion on what wedding dress you should go for!

I'm planning on leaving my mum to it, as she's got a brilliant dress sense. She'll probably take her best friend shopping if she wants any other opinion.

My Mum who is the fussiest lady on the world when it comes to clothes had her whole outfit before I had even started looking at dresses. I was shocked but pleased with this as means she would not be panicking last minute which has been known to happen before. What my Mum has picked and bought is lovely. Shall pop a pic in an album.

i let my mum pick her own outfit , but if i didn't like it i would have told her so. We went shopping especially to buy her an outfit and she appreciated the help and ideas i gave her. She picked a winner in the end :-)

A very well known department store beginning with a D offers a personal shopper service with no obligation to buy. My mum has decided she wants to do that to find her outfit and she has asked if I will go to so I can tell her if I like the outfit she chooses as she knows i'll be truthful as to whether it suits her or not. She doesn't know yet but as her thankyou gift from me and h2b we are paying for hers and h2b's mums outfit.

I always go shopping with my mum and it'll be the same for choosing her wedding outfit (my dad will probably come to); she appreciates guidance, as she doesn't always feel very confident. But, we'll probably try on LOADS of outfits, and I won't be giving her a nudge in the sense of colours/styles etc; it needs to be something she's comfortable in.

So, I think it's fine to help, as long as you don't dictate, or take her too much out of her comfort zone.

Yeh I definitely want her to feel confident and comfortable,it's just she always mainly picks black and I'd like her to stand out a bit so just wanna give her a little push into trying on colours that she wouldn't normally...I've ended up buying a wedding dress I'd not even thought of in the first instance so I just think its nice to try on something different every now and then x

Definitely get her to try different colours; she may be surprised. My mum was thinking of something neutral initially, but we've looked through websites and magazines and she loves some brighter colours (blues and purples), so, your mum might be surprised. Or, if she does like neutrals, she could maybe try a different style/fabric, or look at outfits that are predominantly neutral/black, but with a pattern or accent colours?!
