i used the mooncup when i was trying for my last baby i have no period's now due to having the coil yipee, i love my mooncup used it for 18month was the best thing never had any bad problems or issues with it, my sister in law has been using the mooncup for over 3 years (yes new ones) she woould never go back to using tampons or towels ever again, its abit tricky at first maybe the first 5 time putting it in but then you can put it in and pull it out with your eyes closed
im a married women now
mrs carson-moores
i love my hubby and my kids with all my heart and soul
I must admit i never fancied the idea when i first heard of them years ago as I was worried about changing & rinsing in public loos as others have said. But i think i might try it cos like you Ataraxia i now have month long periods thanks to the implant not doing its job properly and spend a fortune on tampons and 3 differnt types of pads and pantyliners! and i would definetley be up for signing that petition!!! X

I think that with all the UKbride ladies we could get enough signatures. We could also set up facebook campaigns too. I think we need to research all the facts first and then take it from there. It will be easier to get people to sign if they are faced with all the facts in front of them. I wonder if Mr Boss man would allow us to use the forum to help raise awareness?
CommentAuthorrebeccalou21
ok so i didnt read any of the posts and then googled what it was - i really wasnt expecting that !

No is all i can say! I'm on the injection at the moment, planning on having another baby in the next year or so then when i do start having periods again i'll stick to towels i can't even use tampons! :S
CommentAuthorKerrylou
I'm up for the petition, has to be a man that catergorised sanitary products as a 'luxury' item!
Not sure the mooncup is for me, I know what I'm like, I'll go to take it out and it'll end up like a scene from Carrie :S xxx
It's right what they say

But if it had been easy then we wouldn't love each other as
much as we do right now - 1 week to go :D

Have you talked to the doc about a coil? They are easy to fit and don't have nasty icky chemicals that mess with your body.
CommentAuthorXLittleMissMe!X
In the mean time you can get free condoms from the family planning clinic. Not ideal but better than getting pregnant.
CommentAuthorNHR115
I'm on the implant (after being on the injection for around 10 years) and this will be the first month when I have zero injection in my system and I just waiting on the floodgates opening. lol. I have horrific periods when I was younger and since I've been onthe injection I've never had one so I am dreading them starting again. I am praying I'll be lucky enough for them to stay away but I think if they do start then the mooncup would be the way to go. Oh and I definitely sign the petiiton and I know many other girls who would too. xxx
CommentAuthorXLittleMissMe!X
I will email Mr Boss Man and ask him if we are allowed to start the campaign on here. If not I will start it from facebook and see where we can get it. If every UK bride member signed it would mean we would have enough signatures to take it to the house of commons which would be amazing if we could get that to happen.
Chocolate body paint = zero rated for VAT, while toothpaste attracted the full 17.5pc rate! Just shows how stupid this system is!
CommentAuthorXLittleMissMe!X
Ps I had injections and implants in from the age of 15 until about two years ago as I always had heavy periods but they have been loads better since they started up again.
CommentAuthorUnknown
i have only just seen this thread and it is really interesting!! i agree with the VAT on tampons. it shouldnt be allowed. how can woman go without sanitary protection?!? i spend a fortune on tampons. i used to have really heavy periods so was changing them so often and now i have got a non hormonal coil and i have been bleeding everyday since dec 13th so it is costing me a fortune!! xx
i would def sign the petition!!
CommentAuthorMrs Hinch2B

I would definitely sign a petition for no VAT on feminine products, or even to be given free ones. Me and a few friends in college were particularly vehement on that you can CHOOSE not to have sex if you can't afford contraception, but condoms are still free. We don't choose to have periods, nor can we stop them... but we have to pay for tampons/towels/mooncups? Definitely must have been a man making those rules up and they are way overdue for changing.
I know I've already shown myself to be very much pro-Mooncup, but I will add for those who are scared of mess or just the concept of the cup, I am a complete klutz, but the mooncup holds more than any tampon available (even the smaller one) so generally there's no risk of overflowing or mad mess, I've found that the only times I've had any mess at all with mine is when I haven't put it in right, but still not anywhere near as bad as the mess from an incorrectly positioned tampon! I can't use sanitary towels as I'm allergic but would recommend using one until you're completely comfortable with placement! And the mooncup is not really much different to using a tampon, they both fit to the shape of your body, the one benefit I love that the mooncup offers is that if you suffer from particularly long or heavy periods, they start saving you money almost instantly! I've had mine nearly a year now, I reckon I've saved about 3 or 4 times what I paid for my mooncup since then not to mention saved my sanity and the embarrassment of being caught short and having to do the tissue/dash to the shop to stock up on tampons or having my poor h2b do it :)
Got married 27th June and blessed on July 5th 2012

im on the mirena coil. i have always had heavy periods. so bad that the strongest absorption pads would still overflow! (sorry if tmi) now they have got really light. lasting for the same amount of time at mo, but was told they will hopefully stop. last time i had it in, they stopped completely and i loved it cos it saved me a fortune. as for this petition. im all in for it. even h2b thinks it wrong that it not classed as an essential item! luxury item my a**e. how would mr cameron like to have our 'luxury' periods eh? lol. he'd probably think he was dying (man thing lol)

Ooh, interesting topic. I had never heard of the mooncup. Not sure it's for me but may give it a try. I was on the pill for about 20 years and stopped taking it just over a year ago as I was single at that time and didn't want to keep pumping my body with hormones when it wasn't necessary. typical, two months after I stopped taking it I met Mark! I had the non-hormone coil fitted in June (that's another looooong and distressing story which I won't bore you with, and it may put a lot of people off having one!!), and since then I only have about 10 days between each period and they are very heavy and painful :-( The only good thing about them is I know I am not pregnant lol! I was tempted to go back on the pill but as we want to start trying for a baby later this year that's not an option.
CommentAuthorUnknown
katkin...i have just read your post, i too have the non hormonal coil and was wondering if what i am expecting is normal but after reading yours then maybe it is. i have been bleeding near enough every day since 13/12/10. only had about 4 days not!! xx

I'm just in the middle of getting all the information together as I want to get the facts right first. I will let you ladies know how I get on and if I can get anyone to support us. I was also thinking of twittering a few celebs to see if we could get their support to help advertise the petition.

Jo - just to let you know that they're not accepting any online petitions at the moment, but expect them to open up again 'in the near future'. Also, been thinking about it (and I'm not wanting to sound negative about the whole thing, jsut trying to be realistic) and what we need to bear in mind is that this has tried to be petitioned in the past and has got as far as parliament but was thrown out. It's only a guess, but pretty sure it because the HoC is pretty malecentric. I think we need to try and get a female MP on board as this would definitely help our (very valuble) cause! Some great ideas coming out here though! I think we've started WW3 by accident! x

how can they not be open to petitions? should be able to do one and enter it when ever people like surely?!? xx

Something about the change in government - they've just changed the location in which you complete it too - used to be the number 10 website but now it's being done through Directgov and it just says you'll be able to petition the PM later in 2011. It's Rubbish! (yesm, capital R was intentional)! You can still submit paper ones I think, but I'm not so sure that'd be practical for us. x

Thanks Heather. I've just been looking at all the ones that have been rejected so far. In 2001 it was reduced from the 17.5% to 5% as was condoms but even then that isn't really good enough. Nappies are classed essential medical products so are VAT free. I think that the sanitary wear should also come under this category as you wouldn't leave an arm or leg to bleed for hygiene reasons.
From what I have seen the others have been rejected on the grounds that they have just stated that they want the VAT abolished time and time again. I was thinking to make this stand out from the others we need argue the category should be changed to essential medical products. This would then force them to take the VAT off automatically on the grounds of the category change.
Where did you see that they are not taking on petitions at the moment Heather? I've found one site and it doesn't say anything about them not taking them on. I was thinking by the time we start the campaign and get the signatures it would be ready for when they do find time to look at them? Let me know what you think and if any of you have ideas or suggestions then place them in here so we can work together.
CommentAuthorLittle Kettle
I kind of explained in my last post, Jo. If I haven't explained well enough let me know and I'll try again! It would be great to get started on this ASAP, but as they're not taking petitions at the moment, you can't even get onto the bit that you need to, to set it up. So it looks as though you can't start it. Could be wrong as I only had a quick squiz...

i think even 5% is wrong. We do not choose to have periods and can not be with out sanitary protection in exactly the same way babies can not go without nappies.

I am up for the petition, when we can post it I think we must. It is so unfair on more than half the population of the UK who have to by these product (although if we all went for mooncups then it would cut down on that). If women ran this country it would not be an issue. as to the mooncup I have not been aware that i have been on my period all week minimal cramps, minimal mess. although i have not had to change it in a public loo yet. I can't imagine that I would have to as you can leave it in for hours and hours without having to worry about toxic shock.

OK girls Heather and I will try and sort something out and then we will let you know what is going on. We need to research this well before hand or we risk it being thrown out and rejected like all the others. Once we have all the facts and knowledge then we will let you know where the petition is and how you can spread the word to others. I'm going to see if I can get in touch with a local MP for advice and support. If anyone knows anything about the law/legal stuff or politics then can you please speak to either me or Heather please as we would love any help or advise. Neither of us have done this before so if anyone has/knows anyone with experience please let us know :)

MRSBARKERTOBE AND KATKIN, I had the non-hormone coil fitted a few years ago due to horrific periods as well as not wanting anymore children (and the docs refusal to sterilise me) but my periods only got worse so after a few appointments with the gynae, they changed it to the hormone one and now I have had it in nearly 3 years and my periods are virtually non-existent with just a bit of spotting every month around the ime I am due and thats it. I have not had to go above a regular tampon once since getting it fitted. It might be worth going to see your doctors.
As for he mooncup, If my periods were still bad, I would give it a go, it does sound quite intriguing and I can see how it would save a lot of women a lot of money.
As for the petiion, I would sign up. xxx

i had the hormonal coil and didnt like it. put on loads of weight and didnt like not having periods on it. had it for nearly 2 years. i am going to the doctors tomo about me bleeding everyday as not sure if it is normal and it is just getting me so annoyed with it and making me down. only having it until the wedding so not sure whether to put up with it or not. xx
CommentAuthorMumble83
I wouldn't put up with it if I were you. Good Luck tomorrow. xx
CommentAuthorUnknown
thanks. will see what he says. knowing my doctor will prob just say its normal! xx

thanks...will let you know how i get on xx
CommentAuthorUnknown
well i went and saw the doc this morning. he said that what i am experincing can sometimes happen so has given me hormone tablets that i have to take 3 times a day for a week to shock my body and get my regular pattern back xx
CommentAuthorLittle Kettle
That happened to me too, unfortunately, month after month, to the point that I was bleeding so much I went to A&E. They did preg test, it was positive, but they said I wasn't pregnant I just had so many hormone's flying about that it had given a false positive result! It's been a nightmare tbh. Latest thing to happen was being rushed to hospital in Oct with suspected apendicitis which, when under the knife, turned out to be ruptured ovarian cyst. They've found more cysts so are keeping an eye on things (next Scan in Feb) but apparently 18 years of being on the pill/implant/injections kept the cysts at bay and now I've come off everything all h£ll as broken lose! Mrsbarkertobe, you absolutely have my sympathy. I know what it's like. Make sure you keep your iron levels up by eating well x

sorry to hear about that heatherg. its awful getting so down about it at the mo. one minute not bleeding the next i am day in, day out. hopefully these tablets will sort me out. i had been on nothing for 9 months then went on the mini pill but doc suggested i came off it after 2 months so now have this. going to have it taken out after the wedding tho xx
CommentAuthorMumble83
Well done in getting something out of the doc. I agree with Heather about keeping your iron levels up, it may be worth taking an iron supplement for now to keep them up, if your iron levels get low, it leaves you feeling really tired and pretty yuk, the last you need right now is a lack of energy when you have your wedding to plan. xxx
