i have been feeling tired recently...maybe this is why. will have a look in the chemist when i go at lunch to get prescription. just wondering whether i will have to pay for it or whether it is classed as contraception as it is a hormone xx

You'll have to pay, I'm afraid - well, I got charged for it! Just a note on the suppliments - they can take a while to get into your system - I'm not saying don't take them, but just that you should increase things like red meat, spinach, broccoli etc. as these tend to work much quicker x

I agree with heather but think that if you take iron tablets as well as improving the iron levels in your diet, then if you are having a busy day, you will still be getting the extra iron you need.
When you eat an iron-rich meal, have a glass of fresh orange juice with it and avoid tea and coffee for at least an hour before and after. The vitamin C in the juice helps your body to absorb the iron but tea and coffee does the opposite. xxx

I would sign this Jo when it is up and running - is definitely a worthwhile cause plus my periods seem to be getting heavier so I am spending more on sanitary goods n its not my fault - i cant do anything about it!

Hope this goes somewhere and might consider the mooncup and see how I get on! xxx

Still am on the injection at the min but have been told i cant use it permenantly as it causes calcium deficiencies (well gutted as it first thing that has worked in 10 years!! without side effects!!) but i had serious pains so hmmm implant a no on as injection is brave for me but that oooh (SHUDDER!) but at least with this i dont have to wait 3-5 years before tring to start a family!!

I have a nightmare that I'll be on during my wedding, which would seriously suck! But I don't think I can use anything with hormones in now, because I have a hepatic adenoma on my liver, which is benign, but runs a risk of rupturing if you're taking any kind of hormones....

So I guess it's just a case of hoping my cycle stays nice and regular on it's current timetable, which will avoid my wedding day!

think everyone worries about that!! i would hate to be on aswell, esp as my dress has quite a few layers so i would find it extremely difficult!! i'm on the non hormonal coil so im hoping my body gets into a pattern by then xx

I've been on the non-hormonal coil since june 2010 as I was on the pill for many years before that. It's taken my body a while to settle into a pattern but apart from having a 21 day cycle now and heavier periods, it seems to be going well. I am worried about it clashing with my wedding day though :-(

I'm due for a replacement for my non-hormonal coil. I did have major problems when I first had this one put in, bleeding almost constantly, and it took about a year for it to settle, but now my periods are far more regular than they ever used to be, but unfortunately they're also far, far heavier too - I can leak with a super plus tampon after just 2 hours at the peak :S I also now get pretty nasty cramps, which I never used to either. I've found that actually magnesium tablets help - they ease the cramps and leave me feeling less lethargic - definitely works better than iron tablets use to!

The petition is a really good idea, and of course once it's ready to start collecting if it does go on facebook then you will likely get almost every female in the UK signing up!

This sounds extreme, but I really wish that when I'd had the op to kill off the lining of my womb I had been one of the people who then doesn't get periods after. But unfortunately I still get periods, even though they are pointless (I was sterilised, and have PCOS, so no chance of having a baby).

I would definitely sign the petition when it's setup. I have to admit I never realised that there was VAT on sanitary products but not on condoms and nappies..... That's just plainly unfair!

Pennie, I had the same problem when I had the copper coil and the gynaes said that the copper coil is what caused it which is why I went onto the hormonal one.

Faeth, I had previously put up with the bad periods with the intention of having maybe one more baby but h2b and I then decided not to have any more so I went to the docs to get something permanent done to stop me having kids and to hopefully do something permanent (or even semi-permanent) about my periods (previous doc said he could not do anything to sort my periods when we were thinking of having another kid because of the risk of any treatment affecting my fertility) but then when I went to the docs about finally getting something done, I was told they would not do anything because of my age!!!! As for the liver thing, I can kinda understand, I had great difficulty in trying to find something because I got confused about the hormones and was under the impression that I could not use a certain hormone due to having Obstetric Cholestasis in both pregnancies which is a pregnancy-related liver condition where the liver has difficulty in dealing with the pregnancy hormones. Does that make sense?? lol. xx

KrazyKitty I was on the injection for almost 11 years although I know I shouldn't have been on it for more than 2 years. The implant has been fantastic so far - i've had it in for 9 months so far and, fingers crossed, there's been no trouble. xxx

    Bumping to the top!

My friend is Vice president Student Support at Aberdeen College so I can ask her for advice about petitions etc. They're very vocal regarding student fees etc so have some experience in this kind of thing.

Also can magnesium tablets be bought from the supermarket? Or is it more of a health store thing? I've had the non-homonal coil in for nearly a year and my periods are mental. Almost exactly the same day every month which is good as I know to expect it but a super plus tampon barely lasts an hour! Iron tablets scare me (well more the side effects) as I was on them after having the baby.

lol. I know the gannet feeling, my 2 are 3 and 5 and they both have pig out days. Usually when we are at MILs, she must think we don't feed them!!! lol. One time, my 3 year old ate all her tea, then pudding, then an ice cream, a banana, a pack of crisps, a chocolate biscuit, then some sweets. (this is all between 3pm and 6pm!) We then got in the car to go home and she seemed tired so I told her she could go bed when we got home and she then said "but I want my tea"!!!!!!! lmao!! xxx

I agree. My 2 are all over the place, they are unwell at the moment so are not really eating anything but then they have gannet days as well as days where they will barely eat anything. Their weight is steady and normal so I know that whatever they do, it's suitable for them. xx

Hey girls, I've just found this mooncup thing and was surprised to learn that every woman will use over 11000 tampons in their lifetime which will go into a landfill or the sea. If every woman used one can you imagine the difference it would make to the world! Regardless of mess or easiness, it just seems like the most sensible thing to do with the way our world is. We cant just keep on filling up the world with rubbish, has no one seen Walle? lol. I do think that they should be handed out by the government. Wouldnt it make sense for the enviromental dept to do this? One free mooncup for every lady in the land!! If you lose it you have to buy another one though lol
