i must admit i hate sanitry towels and i havent got back into tampons since having my first child so i think imight give this a go.
CommentAuthorEmsy5000
its instead of a tampon during the time of the month. its a rubber cup thing that you put up there and it catches the blood and stuff. you then take it out and wash it and put it back in you are in less danger off toxic shock thingy with it and it cost less because you only use one over and over.

My problem with this product is when you are out and about in public. Can you imagine washing it out in the sink in front of other women? I'm pretty open when it comes to things like this but I really wouldn't want to see someone doing this in the loos nor would I want to do it. I like the concept of the idea and how it works but practically I can't see me using it for the above reasons.

Jo - I know quite a few people who use these and they carry a small bottle of water in their handbags to rinse it out in the loo.
It's never appealed to me though - I'm sticking with my implant and no periods!

Bit of a problem with my implant - they can't find the thing to take it out! And are arguing over who needs to take responsibility for the referral to have it removed under ultrasound :S The mooncup does sound like a good idea to me though

I used to have an implant in and loved it but as we are going to wanting babies soon I'm not on anything. I used to love playing with it though. I will have another one put in when we have had the kids as I love not having periods. I know I could go for the injections but again I want to give my body time to get ready for babies.
Even with a bottle of water in the loo I can see things getting very messy getting it out etc. I guess it would be OK to use around the house or if you know you will be back in time to change but I would hate to be caught out and about and needing a change.
CommentAuthorangelan1986
sounds like its more hard work when we are already at our most irratible to me pmsl
CommentAuthorPossum
I actually really like it - it's as disgusting as changing pads. And you don't have to wash them out if you're in public, you can just tip out what has collected in the loo. They aren't for everyone but I think they're great!

I've had mine since... April and I love it. It sounds gross and it's a little bit tricky to get used to but oh my goodness, it's amazing. Honestly the best thing I have ever bought.
It's just a little silicone cup that comes with a little bag so you can carry it with you in a discreet way. I got mine because I was spending a fortune on tampons due to my implant (being on for months and months at a time and spending about £15 a month on tampons and other things) and figured if I was going to be literally chucking money in the bin with tampons, why not try the mooncup... never even looked back. I always seemed to struggle with tampons, even the heavy ones needed changing too often and I usually ended up having to run to the loo and change it every hour or two, but not with the mooncup - I can leave it in for 4 hours and still be fine! I also had a lot of problems with tapmons as they were messing with me in nasty ways, sorry if TMI but I got a lot of yeast infections and dryness because as I said, I was on for months at a time and quite heavily and I even started getting quite nasty pains during sex which turned out to be linked to the tampons - I've not had any pain since I stopped using them! And I haven't had any infections or similar issues since getting my mooncup and also never been caught short. Mooncups can be cleaned by soaking in sterilizing fluid or just given a good clean with soap and water, they are REALLY easy to clean. It's also quite easy to change in public, as someone else said, you can always keep water to wash it with in the toilet if others are around, but I use wipes for mine as it's easy to keep a little travelpack of them in my bag, quicker as well! And once you're done with it, you just give it a really good clean and pop it back in the bag for next time!
I'm also quite fond of it's environmentally friendliness as well, one mooncup lasts for years and has no waste or paper to throw away :P I'm quite environmentally conscious (or I try to be!) so just another point for the mooncup in my eyes! If you haven't tried it, I would recommend it even if you have doubts, it's one of the best things I've ever bought and well worth it :) and definitely not YUCK at all!

It's all good, glad some of you found my post useful :)
It's a shame it;s taking so long Emsy, I know you can get them from Boots instead of from the internet (I think most stores do them) and I think they cost the same price without the waiting for it to arrive - if it was being sent with Royal Mail they are having a million and one issues atm which might be why it is late! I got mine out of the blue, we'd gone to get tampons and saw the mooncups on a lower shelf, and I just had to grab one after hearing so much about them.

Ok, warning...rant starts... I think it's really unfair that we have to pay for sanitary protection. I see here that someone spends up to £15pm on it, which is sometimes the case with me and my wonderful 45 day ladies 'week'! I remember last year being so broke as my H2B was out of work and I was supporting the household ( he was unable to claim any benefits cos I was working and he hadn't built up enough NI contributions due to working in Dublin for 10 years) that I had to resort to emergency protection of folded up loo roll. Not pleasant! Glad to say those days are gone now. Rant over.

oh poor you Heather well get one of these and it will pay for itself in no time. I have been in the same posistion as you a few times folded over loo roll does not cut the mustard! I am so with you we should not have to pay for sanitary products and they defiantly should not have vat on them they are NOT a luxury!!

I agree nappies are free from VAT and sanitary protection should fall into the same category. I think when I ranted about it years ago I found out that they put VAT on them because they say that they are not a necessity! WTF? It was obviously a man who decided that because I don't know any woman in their right minds that could go without sanitary protection. I too have had to resort in rolled up loo roll when I've been caught out and it doesn't stay in place and can fall out of trousers etc which would be totally embarrassing for that to happen to a woman. Maybe we could start a petition and send it into government?

Jo - totally up for it - just had a look at the No10 site and you can start a petition. If it reaches 500 signatures, it gets sent to parliament! I'm game - anyone else???
