Was just wondering as I'm not 100% sure....

H2b and I don't have a joint account as we don't live together yet and I know it's a while to the wedding but was just wondering if we get any cheques with both our names on are we going to need a joint account to put them in....as I'm not a fan of joint accounts and don't want one

    Thanks x

i dont know how that works with both names....

but me and the boy have a joint savings account, all we do is put money in there that we need to keep to one side, so that could be an option?

we never have anything in there, its more our virtual piggy bank as and when we need to use it

Failing that, put a note asking please make any cheques payable to *.....*

you could probably deposit it if both of you go in person to the bank without a joint account. Although I've paid in joint checks into my personal bank account without any trouble.

I think if I have to, we'll just have to open one after the wedding just to put the chqs in cos I know u can deposit straight away, just a pain of opening another account that we both know won't get used, we like keeping our money separate x

what about just opening a savings account in both names? Thats what me and H2B have, then we have our current accounts separate, but any gift money we get (we opened it after our engagement party) goes in there! xxx

We only have a joint account to pay joint bills together ie house as we live together, we only set it up as we had to for mortgage. The only money that is in it is for house only, we use our own accounts to buy things and pay own bills ie phone, car etc. My friends got married and they had been living together for 18 months and they didn't have a joint account till after married and that was cos they had chqs in for both of them.

Personally, I think putting 'please make cheques payable to...' could come across as a bit cheeky...

I think most people will double check, as they won't know if our bank account has been put into your married name yet (if you're taking your husbands name)

Failing that, I'd let key members of the wedding party (your parents, best man, maid of honour) know to put the cheques in one or other of yours or your h2bs name, in case anyone asks them xx

We STILL don't have a joint account and I don't see that we will every have one. We just don't need one. To be honest, we had a couple of cheques but my bank accepted them without a problem because it had my name on it. I guess it depends on the bank though...and even the individual staff.

My bank accepted a joint cheque so you can only ask. I think it's slightly cheeky asking for chqs to be made payable to ....
