me and my partner have lived together for 3 yrs now and have everything for the house we need a few friends of our s gave us the idea to set up an account at a travel agents and ask guests to pay what they can afford in rather than bring a gift,iv just looked into this and found the travel agents take a chunk of this money for themselves,im wondering if it would be best to just ask people to put money in cards but does that sound cheeky????

if you do a search on this there are loads of poems people have posted asking for money instead of gifts, thats what im doing too. I know what you mean about feeling cheeky but ive been to lots of weddings where others have requested this and it generally goes down well as it saves people struggling to think of a gift!
you could also have a wishing well or similar where people put their cards too

We have already booked our honeymoon and are in the process of paying for. However we are asking for first choice holiday vouchers, which people can place in a card, this is so we know we will be able to go away next year for a second honeymoon.

I think we will be getting a wishing well, its just such a good place to keep all the cards, knowing me i would loose them otherwise, we are disappearing straight away too on our honeymoon so at least it will only be one place my parents have to look for all the cards in the morning!

No dont provide an enverlope as people will want to decide what they give you, and even if you do ask for the cash there will be some people who wont want to give you that and will want to buy a gift, by supplying an enverlope they may be offended.

hmm not sure Hun. I am all for the money for honeymoon thing, cause that is what we are doing. But i think giving people an envelope to put the money into might be a step too far for some people!

after an argument with MIL2B we have decided to not put our honeyfund cards out with the invitations. We are just going to wait until people ask us what we want, then they will be directed to the honeyfund. Or told they could just give money if they prefer, but we would rather they just turned up and had a good time.

yeah your hearts clearly in the right place mrs handforth2be and like iv said providing an envelope is no different to using a gift list service, people at your wedding obv know you and will know your not bothered about if they give money or not,but as people have pointed out and what was my biggest concern when we decided to ask for honeymoon funds is some people wont want to give money for various reasons and maybe a bit offended.i dont think theres any right or wrong way about asking for money or gifts and we all just av to go with what we feel best and hope are friends and family know us well enough to not take offence!!!! xx

We're doing both - a small gift list, as well as requesting money... A friend of mine set up a special bank account just for the honeymoon n explained this, and gave the bank details with the invite for anyone wanting to donate...

here are a couple of poems I've found:
Don’t worry about gifts, don’t buy us a yacht,
The things that we need - we've already got...
Don’t go out shopping or get yourself stressed,
All that we ask - is for you to be our guest.
If you want to be generous, despite what we’ve said,
Then save all the hassle and do this instead…..
Don’t know how to word this but will give it our best shot..
Contributions are most welcome, we’ll go somewhere hot!
A honeymoon would be marvellous, to start off our life,
In our long winding journey, as new husband and wife

If you’re thinking of a gift for us
we ask if you would consider
    contributing to our honeymoon
to make it all the sweeter.
Our house is full of all the things
    a couple could require
    and so a holiday away
    is what we most desire.
Then while we're relaxing on the beach
or by the pool so blue
    we'll sit back and know
that it is truly thanks to you !!

We haven’t got a wedding list,
    The reasons we’ll explain
It’s to save you all the hassle
    As shopping is a pain.
We thought we’d ask you all
    For something else instead
    A small contribution towards
    A holiday in the med.
So if you’d like to contribute
    Towards our honeymoon
We offer you our heartfelt “Thanks!”
With love, the Bride & Groom.

Hey ladies, what do you think about Honey Money? It's an online gift list for the honeymoon. If anyone has used it comments would be very welcome. It says that you can use the money as you like and they are not a travel agency so you don't have to book through them but i'm just a bit weary of the 9% service fee they take off the overall amount. They say "We liken the costs incurred in the service fee to the cost of your guests buying wrapping paper, card, postage and packing, etc". H2b and I currently talking about wedding websites and honeymoon etc and I saw another couple used them and they seem to have lots of testimonials but i'm just not sure how I feel about someone taking some of our money. Are all honeymoon gift websites like that? xx

There is another site parisianbelle, honeymiles or something, they only take £55 I think or something, one off payment, and they don't take any % off your gifts, they just deposit the money straight into an account using paypal
