I just started a massive argument between my mum and dad...when my sister got married my dad gave her 8k. Now because of a few reasons he can only afford to give me 5k. I'm not at all ungrateful and as Edd's parents are giving us 5k as well that is a good budget to work with. We found 2 venues we like one more expensive than the other, my mum loves the more expensive one and wants us to book that. in an ideal world i would coz it is my favourite but we have to think about other stuff we need to buy and also need to get a house so thinking of going with the cheaper one. Now my mum's in a massive mood with my dad coz i can't have the wedding i want coz their not giving me as much as they gave my sister. I don't know what to do my parents have always treated me and my sister the same and equal so i dont see why this should be any different but at the same time i can't take money off my dad when he can't aford it. Sorry for the super long post just needed to vent a bit x

maybe your mum feels its unfair. i know id want my two girls having the best at their wedding. are you ok with your dad giving you less? if so, maybe explain to your mom that you understand and that you are totally fine with the cheaper venue so she should be too. u r very lucky, id love that much money for my wedding! x

our budget is 10k the ideal venue is 7k which would only leave us 3k for everything else, i'm sure its do-able if we tried hard enough. the other venue is about 5k and is just as nice and has as much potential but its a bit out in the sticks got to think about elderley relatives and friends who don't drive etc

sIT DOWN AND BUDGET EVERYTHING AROUND THE MORE EXPENSIVE ONE WITH WHAT YOU NEED, LIKE DRESS SHOES ENTERTAINMENT ETC, THEN DO THE SAME FOR THE OTHER ONE.

fROM THERE WORK OUT WHERE YOU CAN CUT COSTS LIKE REDUCING GUEST NUMBERS, HAVING A BUFFET INSTEAD OF A 3 COURSE MEAL OR MAKING YOUR INVITES YOURSELF ETC.
iF YOU BUDGET WISELY BABE, I'M SURE YOU CAN HAVE THE WEDDING YOU WANT IN THE VENUE YOU WANT WITH 10K. tRUST ME ITS DOABLE.

mY BUDGET IS 5K WITH MY VENUE WORKIN OUT TO BE 3K. sO FAR IM UNDER BUDGET :-)
jUST REMEMBER WE ALL HAVE SOME AMAZING COST CUTTING IDEAS AND ARE HAPPY TO SHARE SO JUST ASK

Sorry to hear that Alice :( If the venue you want is £7k, which leaves you with £3k, could you n H2b not add to it a bit as well?

And Hails, what IS it with your capslock key?? Do you NEVER look at the screen when typing?! :P

Yeah we can but we don't live together yet so trying to save for a house deposit and everything to put in the house, and we want to go back to america for the honeymoon so we're putting about 2k aside for that from our own money. Maybe I need to lower my expectations a little lol x

Hun, you CAN do it but you just have to be smart with your budget thats left. You will have to be a google and ebay wizz and check out anything local thats offering great deals. Silk flowers are MUCH cheaper than real and you can get out of season blooms too. If you want to stick to real, get them from Tesco and Asda and get nifty arranging them.... its easier than you think!! Check out plainer dresses and embellish yourself.... a plain dress thats hitched up on the hip looks stunning if you head to Primarni and get a big sparkly brooch!!! Also, you wear spangly jewellry to make it stunning! Check out local markets, mega bargains to be had! Favours dont have to be expensive, Organza bags with 5 seeds of the flower that blooms the month you marry are lovely, cheap but effective. Marks and Sparks cakes!! Get yourself a brochure from them and check out their sponge wedding cakes and cutting bars!!! Mine is coming to £85 and it feeds approx 140 people!!! You can decorate it yourself if you can do flowers... check out decoration shops! Grooms get their outfit free at Moss Bros and Greenwoods if 5 or more people hire their outfits and I KNOW they move on their first price... ASK FOR DISCOUNT!!! Hire tall slim vases and have 5 oriental/stargazer lilies in it, stand on mirrored tile with tea lights around it. Tell your bridesmaids you are on a budget and they will have to buy their dresses but you will get their shoes and accessories.

    And breathe Gina!!!! lol

Sorry, Im a bit of a nut but love to help others get a classy look without the price tag to match!!!! xxxx

from what ive seen on here, 3k to do eveything else is no problem!!!!
and as i keep getting told-its a wedding, people will fork out that little bit extra for taxis and stuff to get there, especially if its a bit out of the way (my venue is about a mile down a dark and winding country lane) or why not say to people that you can book a minibus/coach to take people back, it will cost them xxx which is cheaper than a taxi, and if there is enough of them then you can don that without being out of pocket!!!!
there are plenty of ways to save money, as ive seen from being on here, and if you have 17 months to go, things are cheaper the earlier you book them!!!

good luck to you, i know how you feel with the parents argueing, mine keep changing the amount they are giving us and im worried im not gonna have enough!!!!
