Just thought I'd vent a little...

Our friends got engaged last December and said they were definately getting wed this year. Well as the year came to a close, there was still no date set so we thought nothing of it. Then 3 weeks ago they announced their date...it was yesterday!

They were getting married at a registry office 30 miles away and having their reception closer to home. Well, as I've only just started in a new school I couldn't get the day off to go and my H2B was in work but did manage to leave at 11am. I was just meeting them at the evening reception later on.

I don't have my phone on in the day and never usually check it either but for some reason I switched it on at 4pm and had 2 voicemails from the groom (left 30 mins before his wedding) and 1 voicemail off my H2B (left 10 mins before the wedding).

The message off my H2B scared the life out of me. Basically he is diabetic and had a massive hypo and had missed the wedding because he only came out of it 20 mins before the wedding was due to start. He had no memory of coming home from work nor of the previous 3 hours and was devestated that he had missed the wedding. The messages from the groom were asking if I knew where he was and what had happened to him as he wasn't answering the phone. Well you can imagine how distraught I was at this point. Anyway I spoke to my H2B who was fine and having something to eat but was genuinely upset at having missed it. Obviously there was nothing we could have done and I was just thankful he was at home and safe.

So he got himself ready and left at 6.30 to go over to the evening reception (I was still in work due to having a meeting that I couldn't get out of) so by the time I got home, showered, washed hair, dressed and back out again, it was 8.30pm. I was driving anyway and the tunnel was closed so I had to go all around the world to get there. I finally arrived at 9.25pm (should have taken me about 20 mins max) and the bride was furious with me. I couldn't believe it!

My H2B is still really gutted (as the groom is his best man) and couldn't have apologised enough...it was just one of those days that was nuts. I understand that the groom was so worried about where my H2B was and it obviously added to the stress of the day but the bride kept saying we'd stolen her thunder!?!?! Erm, excuse me - it's not like we'd planned it! I was really upset at her reaction and just so happy to see my H2B was ok.

Sorry for the vent - I just felt I needed it. Lol x

Glad to hear your h2b is ok. Playing devils advocate, if your h2b and her husband are best mates maybe her hubby was stressing and the relief that your h2b was ok showed in an inappropriate manner, in the same way you scream at the children when they get lost and then you find them. She was out of order saying what she did tho and I hope when she calms down she will have the good grace to apologise or at least explain why she would think it was justified if she doesn't think she needs to apologise.

at the end of the day, they should not announce it with 3 weeks to go and expect everyone to drop everything. You tried your hardest anyways and she should appreciate that.

cant wait to be Mrs Evans less than 3 weeks woooo

Ah thanks girls. Skamer - I do understand what you mean, but the groom was fine and just made up he got there at some point and was ok.

Jillybean - he was getting flashbacks through the night and remembering parts but it's so bloody scary.

Becky - we actually don't know why it happened as he'd had his breakfast and his lunch before coming home so really bizarre - although he is full of cold and I'm wondering if that's sent him off a little.

Sounds like you both did everything you could to get there with only 3 weeks warning. They should have known that getting married on a week day means giving lots of warning! Hope your h2b is ok and the bride will calm down I'm sure

3 weeks notice?! I'm not surprised that you had trouble making it, especially on a week day! i think anyone would struggle to get the day off with such short notice. Bonkers.
Glad your H2B is ok now and I'm sure you're both really upset at not making it until the 11th hour, but the brides reaction was awful. Hopefully her new husband can talk some sense into her so she can show a little more understanding and compassion in the future!

glad your h2b is ok now bet it was scary for him and its a shame he missed the wedding. if your friends knew of his condition (im assuming the groom did!) then the brides reaction was unexcuseable, saying you stole her thunder because u werent there and your h2b took ill. sorry but i wouldnt accept that and as everyone else has said hope the groom talks to his new wife, sort her out lol xxx

OMG glad ur oh is ok. As 4 the bride, she should b more sensitive as being a diabetic is a serious condition. As 4 the short notice, she's brought that all on herself. I think she should apologise. x

With only 3 weeks notice, on a week day, she should be happy anyone turned up at all!
Very glad your oh has recovered :) Sounds like the groom has his head screwed on right, hopefully this was just a bridezilla moment for the bride!
She should apologise for freaking out in such a mean way Xx

Write her a note. Tell her you are so sorry you missed her wedding, and that you're hurt that she hurting that you might have missed it deliberately.
Tell her that when she gets the photos you'd love to go round so that she can tell you about the whole day as you want to know.

That way, you're being humble but putting the shoe on the other foot. It's up to her then to reach out back to you - might make her feel a twinge of guilt...
