when we went to see the Minister (and meet him for the very first time) he said that his wife plays the organ, and could do so at our wedding for £60. Fine I say. His fees are £60 too. He then started going on about how good the food was at my venue, and how he knows the Chef.
Well then i go and meet Chef and he says that the fact the Minister was talking about him and the food, that its a massive hint that he is staying for dinner. So oh well I think, I guess we have to ask him and i know what his answer will be. BUT, his wife. What is he gonna do after the ceremony, send his wife home whilst he stays for dinner? No Chef says, wife usually stays too!
i think thats a flipping cheek. She is gonna be getting paid £60 to play for 2 hymns at our wedding. That is it, and she will expect staying for a feed too??
I know its "polite" to invite the Minister to dinner, so we are going to. But how do we let it be known that the wife IS NOT invited? or do we have to just get over it an accept that she is?

What a cheek! Next the daughter will be singing and the son an usher and you'll have the whole family! That's terrible but surely if you just invite the minister, he'd know it was just him? x

Bit cheeky - I know it's polite to ask them, but I'm fairly sure they usually gracefully turn it down...

It is etiquette to invite your vicar but usually unless you know them they do say Thanks but no thanks. There is no reason that you have to invite invite his wife. You could always prempt it by saying to him that you know that its usual to invite him but due to finance/space/numbers etc you can't. Don't feel pressured to do it if you don't want to.

I'm with Louby, apologise but due to finances ...etc. I'm quite lucky on this point as, I know for a fact, my priest has a wedding straight after! xx

To be honest I know this to be the norm and have organised alot of Weddings with the Minster & his wife / partner. Would you invite your uncle or cousin or friend without his wife or partner?? They see it the same way. xxx

I aint inviting the vicar though, he is just marrying us in my eyes. Think am gonna get Shaun to call him around the time our final numbers are due and just say something like "venue are needing our final numbers, but forgot we could be ONE extra as we hadnt invited you to stay!" and then just hope he gets the hint and politely declines the invite.
and there is only space for 10 at our top table, and no way am I demoting any bridesmaids for him/them

lol I've never even heard of the vicar/priest being at top table - I think that's just ridiculous! I can understand a registrar/minister being invited to stay if they're coming to the reception venue to marry you, but I cant imagine why they'd want to come along, unless they're a friend of the family x

I've never known the minister to be invited!! He/she is there to do a job and then they should leave unless they are close friend or a family member who has an invite. I find the whole thing very odd and I think if they expect to be invited it's extremely rude!!! You shouldn't have to make excuses or think of ways to get out of inviting them, it shouldn't be presumed in the first instance!!!

I haven't ever heard of the minister being invited either, except where you are a part of the church community and are all friends... certainly not that one presumed he's invited with his wife. Sounds like they're wedding fanatics to me!!
