MiL2B was making our flowergirl's dress (she's 9) - her grandaughter. She informed H2B on Friday that she's lost confidence in her ability to do this (she hasn't even tried yet, even though she bought all the material). Problem is, they're in B'ham and we're in London. This weekend is my hen do and the following weekend I'm working on the Sunday and the weekend after is when we'll be packing to leave on the Monday, so we have no time to go up to B'ham and go shopping for a dress for our FG!!! Not to mention how much a dress will now cost us. Although the FG won't be with us in Vegas, she'll be wearing the dress at our London reception but we still don't have any time between getting back and that in October!
I realise that she has a lot on her plate with H2B's Dad being diagnosed with Alzheimers a few months back but this was part of her contribution to the wedding - in fact the only involvement that she's had in it! Oh, apart from the jewelry she was supposed to be making for my MoH and BM, which se forgot about and now isn't making it.
I'd rather she had said from the start that she couldn't do it rather than leaving it til now.

I'm just so annoyed! We didn't budget for paying for the dress and whilst I know you can get them for under £50, it's still not the point really. This is the only involvement she's had in the wedding and she's not even doing that now. It just makes me feel as though she's not interested. Never felt like this about MiL2B before so I guess I'm just processing these feelings.

aww no that's not good. She forgot to do the jewellery? Is she suffering from the same illness to? if she's not making it would mil pay for the dress instead then, that way she's still providing it x

Kimmy has a point. Maybe she just needs some encouragement. Tell her to have a go - she might get her mo-jo back. Keep it light, after all, she has the material, which she probably can't return anyway. Tell her to choose a simple pattern, and that you'll all be honest and support her.
Be prepared with a date and some saved cash by which time you need to see photos and know if it's going ok. You might find you don't have to resort to it and you MIL will be pleased she had a go...

Hun I got some lovely dresses for my young BMs from ebay, shipped in from america - I'll try and dig out the details of the seller and put it on your wall. They worked out at about £18 including shipping and arrived within just a few days x

Thanks so much ladies! I spoke to MiL2B last night and she said that she's cut out the pattern and will have a go at making it. Failing that, she will take her grandaughter to BHS or something and foot the bill, which is fair enough. She just needed some reassurance, I think. Anyway, I've left it with her and hopefully she'll be able to make it (I've seen the pattern and it's really quite simple). If not, at least she said she'll sort it out.
Pennyb - thanks for the link - they're lovely and will certainly bear this in mind.
H2B is going up to see her this weekend as it's my hen weekend so I've booted him out, so hopefully he'll be able to see how things are going too and keep up the encouragement! Hx
