Can you not go to the doctors hun and see if there are any stronger tablets they can give you? They may have something you can do before the wedding to avoid it happening on the day?? xxx

I hope you feel better soon!

Ugh - no fun at all. I have the same panic. I rarely get migraines, but when I do it's often linked to the point at which I relax after a period of stressing or worrying about something alot. So I too have this nightmare that I'll get all stressed up before the wedding, then finally relax on the day, and bang - hello migraine.

Tablets rarely work for me too - I think they stopped the pain once, and only because I had a weird migraine where I had 2 sets of the visual aura before the pain, so I think the tablets got in early enough. Normally I just have to go lie down in a dark room and wait for the pain to be over.

I know the docs have more powerful drugs for migraines than the over the counter stuff (which does nothing for me either) - maybe worth a visit just to discuss your worry, and perhaps have some of that on standby in case (unless you've tried these ones too?). It might at least reduce some of your additional worry about getting a migraine?

I suffer from migraines quite often too. I went to my doctors who prescribed me zomeg to put between my lip and gum so you dont have the risk of throwing it up. My aunt also suffers so badly that she has an epi-pen type thing that she administers herseld whenever she feels one coming on. xx

I used to get really bad migraines when I was younger, they were at their worst when I was coming up to my GCSEs, we couldn't figure out what was causing them but because I was missing school all the time when I really needed not to, the doctor decided to put me on something called MigraMax - it's pretty hardcore stuff, I really shouldn't have been given it as you're not supposed you have it if you're asthmatic or under 20 (I was both!) but it worked for me every single time. You can't have it if you're allergic to aspirin and it does make you quite drowsy...but I was happy to feel a little whacked out over the blinding pain and nausea of migraines :P

As far as I know they still do it, could be worth asking the docs if they'll try you on it? The over the counter stuff sucks, I honestly don't know why they bother making it, anyone who gets frequent migraines knows none of the over the counter stuff even tickles a migraine!

I suffer from migranes at stressful times im having more and more now im doing my dissertation, but if u think about thhis way, get everything stressful out of the way so that the week before you can just chill and relax go to a spa or summit, i think thats what i'll be doing so im not stressed to the run up! :) x

Thankfully I don't suffer from migraines- however unfortunately both my mum and sister do. I know how rough they can make you but my mum only seems to get them when she's on holiday and all stress can be released. She also has to avoid so many types of food as I'm sure your aware of, as this can set her off. She has also found that some painkillers can actually set her off too.

So I would guess that if you were to get one then it's more likely to be the day after your wedding rather than the actual day itself- not a nice thought either but maybe better than having one on the big day.

Hope you feel better soon xx

I get them all the time and my doc has put me on a preventative tablet that I take morning and night to help stop them in the first place. Although they have cut down no end I still get about two a week. I find mostly its due to lack of sleep as I don't sleep well with pain. A good nights sleep can make a real difference. He also gives me another tablet called Sumatriptan which works when the migraine comes on and gets rid of them within half an hour so it might be worth talking to your doc about it. At least then you have something ready on the day to attack it if you have one. It gets rid of even the worst migraines I've had when I have been throwing up and even the tiniest bit of light or noise has set me off.

Wine and chocolate are things that can trigger them. If you do a google it will list foods that are known triggers. The other ones I take are called pizotifen.

If it is two a month could it be hormonal migraines? Start keeping a record of when you get them and when your periods are etc as it may help the doctor.

i suffer wit migraines and take Pizotifen the same as Jo, you take these every night as a preventer, then I have Paramax for when I get an attack. I think the Paramax works just by knocking me out for 6 hours solid, so can only take them when I am off work and have someone else in the house.
i find my migraines come in cycles, I won't have ay for months at a time then go through a month where I seem to have one a week. I haven't taken Pizotifen for over a year now as I wasn't keen on medicating all the time but they are good to use for a month or two to break the cycle of migraines.
I hope the doctor gives you something and you get sorted x

the Sumatriptan work by reducing the swelling in your blood vessels which causes the migraine. Its amazing at how just quickly they work and how they stop all the other side effects. They don't make me drowsy either and about the only thing I notice afterwards is that my eyes are still a little sensitive but not to the point of hiding like a vampire away from lights.

i have the coil so my periods are hit and miss so sometime i dont have one for 3 months then have 2 months of periods then nothing for 2 months... but think im going to make a diary of when my migraines occur... the doctor in the hospital when i was discharged with menengitus did say people do suffer with migraines after for a few years but this will be my 3rd year since that and they seem to be getting worse...

h2b has just got in and told me to go to the doctor tomr as hes worried incase i get one on the day or before ... he said you were awful last night apparently it took me 10 mins to get up the stairs ... i dont remeber!!

no wine or chocolate?? omg i will be a size 0 lol there my favourite food staples haha

Well it is something that you can cut back on just before the wedding as a precaution just to try and help out but I really do recommend the Sumatriptan as a back up. You can buy it over the counter Imigran Recovery Tablets have the Sumatriptan in it which is what gets rid of them but I'm not sure how much they have in them compared with the full dose the doc can prescribe. Also you pay nearly £6 for them over the counter for 2 tablets where as the doc can give you a months supply for the price of a script.

another thing that makes mine worse is cheese! xx

    Top offenders:
Cheese (except cottage, farmer's, ricotta and cream), Alcohol (red wine is the worst. Watch out for flavourings (ie vanilla) which may contain alcohol), Caffeine (especially suddenly raising or lowering your intake), Chocolate, Aged and non-fresh meats and liver (ie cold cuts), -(also watch out for products with meat and hydrolyzed protein, such as gravy and soup mixes), Soy beans, Italian green beans, broad bean pods, MSG, Nuts (especially peanuts), Yeast (especially in homemade bread and sourdough), Sauerkraut (and other aged foods)
A big problem for migraine sufferers is food with tyramine, so there is now a page dedicated to cutting down on foods with tyramine.

Another theory is that tannins are diet headache migraine link. Find out what tannins are and where you find them.

    Eat with caution:

Salad Dressing, Rennet tablets, Dried fruits (including raisins), Imitation crab, Licorice, Mushrooms, Snails, Salty foods, Rhubarb, Citrus fruits, Ripe avocado, Ripe banana, Yogurt and buttermilk, Fresh raspberries, Red plums, Onions, Worcestershire or teriyaki sauce. Wheat is a trigger for some as well.
    Eat in moderation:

    Everything!
Especially avoid sudden drastic changes in your diet, such as suddenly cutting out all caffeine or suddenly eating large amounts of peppermint. Whatever it may be, ease into it and eat a well balanced diet!

It depends on you really. Cheese doesn't trigger mine but do for a lot of people. Its just a guide to help you find out what triggers them for you. Try ruling things out one by one and see if you can pinpoint what triggers them for you. It could be that you keep a food diary, period log etc and then see what you have had the day/hours before them and see if there is a link. It might take you a few months to find out what it is that triggers them but once you know what it is you can control them better.
