We considered here too, as it so beautiful but as fellow August bride our travel agent just said did we want to spend all that money and run the risk? Yes it most likely will be absolutley fine, but there is the possibility and it's not called huricane season for no reason :( Could you maye have a mini moon after the wedding and do Mexico when the weather is non hurricane season time?

we looked at Mexico and Jamaice and had exactly the same worries - I'm a teacher so even though we're getting married in May we're still having to go on honeymoon in August (how annoying!) and we just couldn't risk it. Its SO expensive and its a big risk. We looked up the hurricane histories and they seem few and far between, but when they do hit they're bad. We just decided it'd be our luck for it to be next year, so couldn't risk that amount of money xxxx

We're going to Mauritus instead, beautiful place, beautiful weather, and it's a once in a life time trip. I doubt we will ever be in a position again to go on such an expensive holiday so we're making the most of it :)

Well if you really have your heart set on Mexico then maybe the mini moon and then go when the weather is better. I know you said you work in a school so it may be difficult but just go when the school are off, hallowe'en or maybe after christmas for new year, or possibly easter? Not sure which time the weather would be best, but it's something to consider :)

ughhhh! Well we went to Mexico for our honeymoon! We would never go again if you paid us.
We went to Cancun and stayed in the Grand real Carib.
Was supposed to be 5 star... hmmmmm they are rated very easily is all i can say bout that.
We received no honeymoon perks - flowers, champagne on arrival. Hubby complained but we never got them and we were promised when we booked.
It was hot hot hot - which we expected. We got the dregs of hurricane Irene so was windy and rainy for three days. But when the weather is that bad there is NOTHING to do. All it can pride itself on are the beaches.
Cancun is a resort. One day we got on a bus and went into the real cancun - such poverty - infact we were advised by a local to get the bus back to the resort because when the locals see fair skin and not brown eyes they assume money and u will be robbed!! FEAR OR WHAT!

To top it off we both got food poisoning there. Hubby ill the first week I was ill the second week. I mean throwing up, the works.
One guest we spoke to went home a week early. We would have if we had the cash.
A truly awful experience. We counted the days til we got home.

Hotel entertainment is over by 10pm across the board.

I have heard that the hotel Rui or Riu is the best hotel in Cancun. Many people have said this. Has its own entertainment that starts 11pm underneath the hotel - like a disco with popular music.

Be prepared to be ripped off. People trying to sell things to u on the streets, people expecting a tip. If u don't tip then u don't receive service. Dreadful.
As u can guess - I do not recommend it!!!!!!!! Our honeymoon we will never get back :0(

hotel grand Carib
was very poor entertainment. We're used to going out about 10ish on holiday so for it to finish at this time was awful. We're not big drinkers so like to be entertained.
When the rain was lashing down people were just hanging around the foyer area for three days - very depressing. But by all accounts the hotel Riu was outstanding. One guest we spoke to had stayed there and said they would never go anywhere else again having stayed where we did.

My advice is check ur hotel thoroughly and go off recommendation. We checked ours out but wish we had known somebody who had stayed there. x

u also gotta remember a 5 star in say tenerife isnt the same as a 5 star in mexico etc!

We've been to Mexico 3 times, and we've stayed at the Excellence Riviera Cancun, so if you have any questions, let me know, or add me as a friend and send me a PM and I'll send you a link to a detailed review.

We love Mexico, as we have found the standard of AIs to be very high on the whole, with things like unlimited a la carte dining, top-shelf alcohol available, beautifully decorated and well-equipped rooms, 24 hour room service, etc. Weatherwise, you should expect August to be very hot and very humid; you should also expect a short sharp shower once or twice a day; typically these last about 10 minutes max, and dry quickly. You may also get 1-2 full days of rain during a 2 week stay. I've travelled to the Caribbean 6 times between June and August over the last 3 years, and am back again June/July next year, and the weather would honestly never put me off.

Re Cancun: we don't like it at all. It's too young and commerialised for our liking. If you want to be in town, I would like at the Royal Playa del Carmen which is right in Playa del Carmen, which has plenty of bars, shops and restaurants, but a much more chilled-out, laid-back, and older feel. We like the Riviera Maya best though, which essentially is a long stretch of coast dotted with resorts. The resorts here are very large, with plenty to do on-site, and most are also within 15-30 minutes of the nearest town by taxi. The El Dorado Royale is about 30 minutes from Cancun and Playa, and 10 from Puerto Morelos; the Excellence is about the same.

We went to Mexico in September and the first week was really good then the second week we only had a few days of rain but it was still hot. I don't think it's a problem were getting married in September and Mexixo is on our list of honeymoon places.
