We are getting married in a registry office and they have a strict policy that we can have 34 guests (including bridesmaids etc) and that everyone must be seated. I have asked if there are 1 or 2 extra can we squeeze them in and they said no, it's fire regs, if there is more than 34 they will be asked to leave the room. Anyway, so we've sent our invites out (day and night) but as one couple can't come to the ceremony I have asked another close friend if she would like to come rather than just to the evening do (her invite is for her and a plus one). She is over the moon. My problem is that when I wrote the guest list - I didn't put my kids names down (I hadn't forgotten them haha, I just won't be sending them an invite obviously!!!!) so my numbers are now over 34! Now if the friend doesn't bring a plus one we're bang on 34 but I feel bad asking her to come on her own. Im not going to have much choice to be honest and to be fair she's not exactly shy so will be ok mixing with people she doesn't really know until the night do. Not really sure on the point of posting this - nobody can magically make the registry office allow extra people - just wanted to get it off my chest I spose!! lol xx

I'm sure she will understand , I have been to a few weddings where like yourself numbers were limited so some couldn't go to ceremony whilst still coming to the day part of reception . Just explain and it will be fine :)

I remembered to include me and OH in the numbers but forgot to account for the registrar, assistant and venue staff who will be in the room as well. Really hoping that the venue tell me that they'd taken those people into consideration when they said they could accomodate 120 guests.

Have you asked if that includes your photographer/s? i read recently that there registry office counts the photographer even if there not seated and have been asked to leave before.

is it just the ceremony the friends OH would need to miss If that's the case I would explain to her that unfortunately you miscounted and due to strict numbers he cant come to the ceremony but is welcome to either wait outside and meet you all after or he can meet you all at the reception venue

I would ask the registry office exactly who needs to be counted and how many spaces are for Guests, as some county's may be stricter than others. Also explain the situation to your friend. Maybe mention it in conversation first and that you're looking into it so she has an idea then explain if needs be her partner may have to be sacrificed x

I keep forgetting about us as well. My fiance has everything on an Excel spreadsheet and just highlighted cells when he counted guests. He realised that he'd counted from the wrong cell, and counted himself but not me! I'm sure your friend will understand, particularly if her partner can join you later on.

Yes it's just the ceremony he will have to miss. Yes we have to count photographer as well (already checked that out). Im sure she'll be fine with it and he's more than welcome to wait outside if he so wishes xx
