OK, so, we're going for our menu tasting next month; 5 of us are going (ahem!) so we can try a selection of dishes. We have some definites, but I'm undecided on our chicken option, and also on our options for our starter and dessert. We need a gluten-free option for each course (my brother's friend is a coeliac), plus a vegetarian option (4 pescatarians). We're offering 2 options for the starter and dessert, and 4 for the main; so far, they're as follows:

    Starter:

Melon with parma ham (gluten free)
    OR
Cheese and onion tart with side salad (v)

    Main:

Pan-seared salmon with spring onion and herb crushed potatoes and white wine veloute (GF)
    OR
Hereford Angus sirloin steak with sauteed potatoes and spinach (GF)
    OR
Spinach, ricotta and wild mushroom lasagne (v)
    OR
Coq au vin with mashed potatoes and spinach OR Pot-roast breast of corn-fed chicken with mushroom, leek and pancetta risotto and chicken veloute

    Dessert:

Apple tart-tatin with vanilla ice-cream and apple crisp (v)
    Fruit salad (GF; v)

As there are 5 of us going, we can ask them to create other dishes for us to try; so, I'd love some suggestions for starters, desserts, and chicken dishes; esp chicken dishes. The veggie starter can't involve peppers as one of the pescatarian guests is allergic to them, and I'd prefer to steer clear of mushrooms as they feature in 2 of the main courses atm inc the veggie one.

    Thanks in advance!

weedles: we're giving guests all the options :-) So, 2 for starter, 4 for main, and 2 for dessert.

I'm probably over-thinking things I'm just not sure I'm 100% happy with the starters, the chicken option (I reckon that fussy eaters will go for chicken, and I'm worried they won't like coq au vin, or risotto; but, I'm rubbish at finding menus lol), and the fruit salad (but not sure what gluten-free dessert options are out there that other guests will also enjoy, argh!)

i think thats a sterling menu! plenty odf choice must be something for everyone on there! i have no choices on my menu with the exception of 2 vegetarians who have a vegetarian option. at £25 a head they get what i can afford the next tier up which offered 2 choices was £39 a head and by the time i have added a glass of something for 38 adults that was just getting silly money so they have got what they are given : tomato soup and fresh bread roll or
    blue cheese beignets (veggies only)

supreme of chicken with roast potatoes and seasonal veg
    falafel (only veggies)

apple and blackberry crumble with clotted cream or custard

may not be to everyones taste but its free to them lol so they can just get on with it. in the evening we are having hot pasties and im making a selection of cakes including scones with jam and cream , cupcake bouquets , cheese straws and a few savoury nibbles. food and drink is a huge expense but this menu appealed to me it uses all local cornish produce which was important to me. and the evening is not about feeding all my guests but just a token (although 150 pasties will feed them somewhat!)

One BIG day will lead to lots of little happy days !!

Tbh your menu sounds fab as it is, Knowing my h2b he'd probably want chocolate included in the dessert, but he can have that at his own wedding, your options are great and if people aren't feeling like they are spoilt for choice they can go to the chippy lol. You've got waaaay more options than we have for ours and we're not doing a starter either

    Thanks guys!

I'm going to have a search and see if any other chicken dishes strike my fancy, then I think we'll try the steak, 2 chicken dishes, and probably the vegetarian one (can't really go far wrong with salmon).

Velcro: yeah a few people have mentioned chocolate, but unless we can find a gluten-free chocolate option it ain't happening; I love apple tart tatin so that is staying! lol. We do however have 4-5 different flavours of wedding cake, and one will be a rather nice, rich double chocolate cake; so hopefully that will satisfy people! ;-) My friend is also making chocolate truffles for our favours :-D

Your menu sounds nice, but, being a fussy eater myself, I wouldnt have either of the starters or desserts!

Our menu (offering 2 choices per menu with a veggie option for main) are:
    Starters:
    Homemade tomato & basil soup
    OR
    Smoked salmon salad

    Mains:
Supreme of chicken with a wild mushroom sauce, served with boiled or roast potatoes and veg
    OR
Prime roast sirloin of beef with Yorkshire pudding and gravy, served with roast potatoes and veg
    OR
    Mediterranean Tartlet (vegetarian option)

    Desserts:
Assiette of Desserts to include; (mini) vanilla cheesecake, chocolate torte with chocolate sauce and strawberry shortcake stack
    OR
    Profiteroles

    Followed by tea or coffee.

We decided on this menu as, frankly, we're paying for it so want things we would happily eat! Hubby loves soup, beef and profterols and I love smoked salmon, chicken and the trio of mini desserts, if no one else likes them, then they starve lol!

Our venue also offererd brandy snap basket with tropical fruits which sounded lovely - maybe offer the fruit salad in someting similar so its not 'just' fruit salad?
