Ive been looking at sample menus from various possible venues and they're all more or less the same, For my cousins wedding last year everyone had the same...there was soup with a bread roll for starter, a beef dinner for main and profiteroles for dessert..Not everyone likes them (H2B doesnt I ended up having his-he didnt have dessert)
Im not sure if to have a menu where everyone has the same though as everyone likes different things-H2B's mum is a vegetarian also so would need to provide a different meal for her. Not sure if to do something different for our wedding breakfast???
Also, would I seem tight if I used my wedding cake for dessert? I want a 3-4 double tiered cake and each layer will be a different flavour?

heya im not having a sit down meal but i think it may be a nicer opion to offer a vegetarian meal for your h2b's mum. im having a buffet which is costing £12 a head for the food, ive decided against having a dessert with this as it would end up costing £17.30 a head and i cant justify that extra £5.30 each lol so im just using my wedding cake as desert as mine too is going to be different flavours.

Lots of people use their cake as dessert so feel free!
For our dessert as well as our cake we're having mini-desserts coming out on tea stands, like a high tea - and for our starters it's canapes so people can choose what they like (we're ordering 1 per person anyway) - the mains we're having a choice of 5 walked around on trays with 2 of those suitable for vegetarians, that way we don't need to fuss with getting everyone's orders in advance etc.

having a 3 course sit down meal with profiteroles as the desserts but knowing hotels you'll get like 3 profiteroles and thats it.
the evening buffet has no dessert so i'm using my wedding cake and sweet buffet as dessert instead :-)

Sounds like a plan then! I couldnt justify the £5 odd pp for dessert either Id rather use my cake, It will go to waste most likely otherwise as much as I LOVE cake I couldnt eat it all haha.
I need to sort out my venue and menu cost etc asap as I'll have a better Idea on WHEN we can get married, It was originally meant to be Sept this year but we decided to put it back a year to make sure we have enough money for everything, If it works out quite abit cheaper with certain alterations and more DIY invites flowers etc then I may well have it this year as originally planned xx

We are not using our wedding cake as dessert because our cake is fruit cake... but one thing you might need to be aware of. the manageress of our venue said that some people use their wedding cake as dessert, thinking its going to save them money when in fact it doesnt hardly save anything at all. .. OUR venue at least...charges to serve it. there are still the plates to wash, the cake to be served, and its all time and so they obviously charge you for it.
as a rough guide, (at MY venue) desserts are sold for £7 pp, and if you bring your own cake to use as dessert....its £5 pp to serve it. so you may as well have the dessert they are offering (£2 difference) and save your cake or give it to your guests.
We are having fruit cake, but even if we were having sponge, the manageress told me that AFTER the dessert, (if we buy their dessert) then they will cut up and serve our cake and serve it with the coffee....and there wont be a charge for that.
I just thought you ladies hoping to use their cakes as desserts maybe should ask if there will be an extra charge for them to serve it.
I suppose its a little bit like a corkage charge, some places allow you to bring your own wine, but they charge corkage per bottle to serve it, after all....there are the glasses to wash i suppose.

my venue has a set price for 3 courses as well so for some venues it's not really an option. we're getting ours cut up for the evening buffet so that our evening reception guests will enjoy it as well. also for vegetarian my venue advised to choose meat options and they cater a menu specific for the vegetarians. Luckily no one is from any of my rsvp's so nothing to think about there for me x

My sister had her wedding cake as dessert, she had lots of different flavors too. We were going to have the cake as dessert, but then discovered the venue made the most amazing cheesecake so we had that instead. The cake was suposed to be brought out in the evening but the venue forgot about that. xx
