Cotton knickers! I kid you not :) As it's Mexico, I would expect there to be air con indoors. I was fine in Vegas - that was in 44C heat.

We took hand held battery powered fans (they were on offer in a supermarket the winter before for 50p each!), but found we didn't need them.

Having sat in an office of 33C for the last 2 days, I can confirm that the cold water on your wrists does indeed help :)

Remember that most of the heat you feel in this country is the humidity. I'm assuming Mexico is a drier country so the heat will be more bearable then this. Just make sure to drink plenty of fluids, not too much alcohol, and stay cool in the shade or indoors.

Yeah Rennie is right; countries have different heat. Portugal was baking but bearable; come back to England and so hot and ncomfortable. You will be fine ::)

The type of heat depends on the part of Mexico you're in and the weather they are experiencing. If you're staying at one of the coastal resorts there is a possibility of high humidity although that should be tempered by ocean breezes. I lived in a desert for awhile so I'll share some tips for staying cool and healthy in the heat.

The most important thing is to stay hydrated. Your urine should always be clear to a light straw colour; any darker than that is a sure sign that you are not hydrated enough.

Avoid direct sunlight, especially between the hours of 10 - 4. I would recommend having someone carry an umbrella on the day of so you have access to shade. Wear a high SPF sunscreen, and reapply throughout the day.

If it's really hot portable fans, especially the ones attached to spray bottles can be a life saver. There are also cooling spray products you could buy. Worse comes to worse you could use instant ice packs to keep cool on the day.

The heat is something you get used to over time. Luckily it is warm here so going to Mexico won't be a massive shock to the system.

From attending my Italian cousins' weddings, cool cotton undergarments as mentioned, staying out of the sun as much as possible, cool drinks, eating light and water laden food, sleeping for a siesta during the hottest hours and having a later in the day wedding!!!!
