    Hey guys,

Probably more of a question for the already married people, or maybe they tell you when you go and give notice ? I don't know.. But why does the bride have to have a meeting with the registrar before the ceremony ?? xxx

It's just to confirm your details ready for the register. And confirm how the ceremony will run. Nothing to worry about and takes around 5 minutes if that! Xxx

    Ours took half an hour.

As mentioned, it's merely to prove that you are who you say you are, and that it's not a scam marriage, nothing more than that. After that, notice will go up of your intention to marry for fifteen days so that anyone can object if needs be, hence the term. They'll ask you things like you H2B's DOB, His parent's maiden name, that sort of thing. You also will choose your vows.

Perfectly painless, and nothing to worry about at all. If you have your banns read in church, then this is the equivalent.

Thank Natalie ! I was so confused ! So basically, for them to make sure I'm not a different person to who gave notice ?? Lol.. xxx

Clive, I mean on the day of the wedding, not at the time when you give your notice...

It's so they can confirm you are who you say you are in the giving notice and that nothing has changed, so the records are right in the register xxxx

Yep usually at a church wedding your vicar will talk to you as your waiting to go in and to your h2b as hes standing at the front waiting for you. This is the same thing that the registra will do for a cival service but it's usually in a little room or outside your venue but basically its to make sure nothing has changed from when you gave notice!

We've got to go in 15 minutes before the ceremony starts, just to check details over again and confirm we are still happy and free to be married.

Mines in a room with really squishy sofas that H2B had to pull me out of at the open evening haha, so I think I'll stay stood up on the day in a big dress haha !!
Thanks guys.. Bit worried about having enough time for pictures at my house now cause I'll have to leave a bit earlier for the 'meeting' and the photographers only coming an hour before... :-/

Mine only popped in and took my name and my fathers name and confirmed the order of the day. I expected to be asked for ID or something because we had been warned we had a discrepancy when we gave notice - he said i was a paralegal and i said an employment paralegal (splitting hairs or what!!) And it wasnt the woman we gave notice with either so I coulda been any old bird

Yes it's five mins max and they just double check nothing has changed like your job title or age since giving notice - ours also explained in brief what each one was going to do. I did stay standing throughout- they even offered to sort my dress at the end and had water/ tissues on hand if needed like lala's xx

If something has changed, like job title for example - do they just make up your certificate with new job title on it there and then? or is it a big red tape type thing that causes problems?
Only asking because I had 3 jobs and just named one, without thinking it will go down in history on my certificate for ever more lol so would like to put one of the other jobs instead x

Almost Mrs B - no it didn't cause me any issues I had changed job and age since we gave notice but they just updated it and put my new one on the certificate - so just tell them which one you want to go on there xxx

I assume the process is similar to when you gave Notice of Marriage way before the ceremony?

I'm worried because they want my father's occupation and I know he'll say inventor, because that's something I want to see on my marriage certificate! As Natalie said I may put Judge or Rocket Scientist instead ;)

I may be tempted to sign my occupation as a writer, I don't really want cashier/assistant manager as my job title, pretty bland and boring! I do write stories though :D

mine was really funny as it was my sister that married us but she still had to ask all the questions but also supplied a glass of wine while we were doing lol said i was shaking so much she thought I needed it. Must admit it was lovely being married by her but a bit weird in another way
