My fiancé and I are going to meet the vicar for our church wedding in the village where I grew up (about 150 miles from where we live now). When I spoke to the vicar on the phone she said it all sounds promising for a church wedding but wants to meet to discuss with us, what sort of things will she ask? Do we need to prepare anything? We're going to church in the morning but don't know what to expect!
Thank you! xxxx

When do you want to get married?
Think about what time you want to get married? If they will let you have your own music? What is included in the price as some Churches include bits that others don't ect.

Is there any chance they don't allow us to get married in the church??? :oooo Will probably meet the vicar by March, need to know if I should be scared or not :(

When we went she asked us which date and time we wanted, had to fill out forms for both our families and which jobs we all do etc it was just to have a chat and for her to give prices and get to know you so nothing to be scared of Camila :-) x

Yay! Thanks! Always worried since I'm not from UK or EU. But everything will be just fiiiine :D
There's always ways they can work around it, our Church warden said because we both live in the area we can get married there, but he said they do whatever they can to work it out... like they had an Australian couple ring up about getting married there and he didn't think they could do it, but they managed to work it out due to one of their grandparents who used to live in the area.

Brilliant thank you :-) We're getting married in August 2016, but it would mean everything to get married in the church where I grew up - h2b is pretty chilled about wherever we go. I'm not a regular church goer, does that matter? We're going on Sunday morning and meeting the vicar at 3 that afternoon so it'll be good to show our faces and introduce h2b to the church I'm sure! xxxx

Is it Church of England?
If it is you should be okay... Catholic can be fussier and I am not sure about other Churches, but Church of England have their set rules so as long as you have ties to that Church you should be allowed to get married there, such as if you live in the area, if you have family in the area or if you were brought up in the area

I lived in Lincoln for one year. The church we're thinking about getting married in is in the village h2b grew up. He knows the vicar and we're really excited about it. But since I'm Brazilian and don't live permanently there, I don't know...

Camilla it will be fine if the church was your H2B's local church when he grew up. He will qualify for the church, and only one of you needs to qualify. The only thing that I can think of is that you may need to satisfy the vicar that you are not getting married simply to get permission to remain in the U.K., as some people from outside the EU unfortunately do see marriage as their ticket to residency here. Given that you've already been here a year I can't see that it would be a problem.

Louise it doesn't matter that you don't regularly go to church as long as you grew up within the parish boundaries of the church. The vicar will be able to verify that your address was within the boundaries. The main thing the vicar will do is make sure you understand what is involved in a church wedding, and they will have to ask you to confirm that you are both legally free to marry (always seems pointless as no one will get to that stage and then say that they are not). They might also ask you if you have any thoughts about hymns or readings, but if you don't know what to pick they will advise you. They'll also need to check where you are both living, and make sure you know what to do about organising the reading of banns. As neither of you live in the parish where you are marrying, you will need to have the banns read not only in the church that you are marrying in but also in your local parish church (or churches if you don't both live in the same parish). My husband and I had them read in three churches, as we both lived in different parishes, neither of us in the parish we were marrying in.
