I have just had confirmation from the vicar for a first meeting with him on Saturday about us getting married in his church. It is my parish church (I have lived there since I was born) and I was also christened in this church so I think he will be ok marrying us. I was just wondering whether anyone could help me out with what sort of stuff he will ask us when he sees us? As none of my friends have got married in a church I have no one to answer this for me! Any help will be much appreciated!
Thank you xxxx

i have not had this meeting myself yet but have recently spoke to a friend who had just spoke with her vicar she said it was fine she felt abit awkward but was just like a normal conversation gathering your backgrounds etc. she did say the subject of sex was brought up as the vicar knew they had a daughter he said that traditionally they should have been married first but in this day and age he knows its different and that sex should never become a duty even though you are married ;) lol hope this helps anyway im sure you will be fine and good luck :) xx

My priest asked if we lived together we said yes and he had a little smile. he's so modern and not the archetype of the catholic priest I am so comfortable with him

Hi Linzi, we are also getting married in our parish cofe church. We went to meet the vicar back in February & he was really nice. He just asked us some basic questions, how long we've been together etc and then confirmed all our details with us, date of birth, fathers occupation, address etc.
He then went through what we would like on out order of service & showed us an example so we basically know what order the hymns/readings/legal bits come in.
There was no religious talk at all which surprised us, we were at least expecting 'why do you want to get married in a church?' He then told us the dates for the reading of the Banns and said that although we didn't have to come, he would like it if we could. The first of our readings was last week, so we have to go tomorrow and next week. It was all quite relaxed and nowhere near as formal as I'd expected & we had no mention of living together before we were married or about s ex thank goodness!
Hope this helps a bit x

Same with us, Our vicar is quite witty. We only decided to get married at his church in Nov last yr after attending a christening which he did and he made us all laugh and was so down to earth we knew he was the one. He asked us how long we had been together and as I had been married before needed to make sure I had been divorced some time and not just signing it before gettin hitched again lol. He also asked why this marriage would be different than the last. Would there be any scandal over us getting married? He has loaned us a hymn book to go through together and arranged when to attend the reading of the Banns and as he's away for a month until the day before our wedding we need to be organised. IMPORTANT! Relax and be yourselves
I have finally found my soulmate
On 1st Sept 2012 I will become Mrs Curry

Thanks for all the advice ladies and I can tell you it went well! Our worry was that h2b is a different religion (Greek Orthodox) but he was fine with it! Even said that if h2b's priest wanted to come and do a blessing during the ceremony he would be fine with it! It was much more relaxed than I thought and talked to us about our studies and bits too as he was also a student when he got married. Main thing is he agreed and we now have a date and time booked in with him! Very excited!!! xxx
